They say that you can always tell what kind of a person somebody is when you look into their eyes.
You can see the emotions swim inside the irises as the brain sends its trigger of reaction. The dark black pupils dilate in adjustment to the conditions that the eyes are exposed to…
One person within the camp is particularly difficult to figure out.
And that person is the redneck hunter Daryl Dixon…
He is what anyone would call an enigma…
His temper is a dangerous factor to his personality, frightening those who observe the resulting fistfights, hear the heated cursing…
He possesses an agile strength that allows him to protect himself and those around him. His hand-eye coordination is not something to be taken lightly in the hazardous world of the apocalypse.
If he knows that somebody undeserving of harm is being hurt, he will protect them without question. If that someone tries to thank him, he will pretend like nothing happened deny the fact that he was even acknowledged with gratefulness.
His voice is gruff and intimidating, making one almost question why they are talking to him. Yet, there is a subtle softness to his tone, deep beneath the tough façade, as if it's his natural way of speaking… It has the ability to both frighten and comfort, mostly the latter.
However, it is truly his blue eyes that present who he really is. They show how he may be thinking about a plan he is being informed about.
His eyes depict the despair and justified anger at the mysterious loss of his brother…
The determination to defend the group from danger, from a world thought only to exist in horror stories…
The reluctant realization that he is becoming a person of importance among this group of survivors, someone who is needed…
They say that the eyes are the window to one's soul.
When one looks into Daryl's eyes, they may have no idea what they may be in for. They may see the frustration aimed at the irrational decisions that put everybody at risk.
Or the quiet sympathy for the two children among the camp, who have to endure the terror of not knowing if they will live to see the next day…
One thing everybody knows for certain is that he will protect the camp with everything he is. One day, they will realize that underneath the tough exterior lies a heart trying to find its rightful place.
The fire in his eyes will continue to burn until his world is gone forever, disappeared into Kingdom Come.
