Chapter 1-

Ianto was determined to find Torchwood Three for several reasons. He had seen so many amazing, beautiful, evil creatures at the London base and lets' face it that is not something you can let go of easily. His job and world had been burned around him in the battle between the Daleks and the Cybermen, his girlfriend had been half converted into a Cyberwoman and he needed somewhere to care for her without living in fear, surely the Cardiff base would be perfect for that.

He had managed to salvage some of the equipment from the wreckage, a basic rift movement tracker (a device that managed to calculate the position of any rift activity), the car keys and rucksack of basic rations (food, matches etc.) So Ianto decided to make his way to Cardiff. After dragging his girlfriend out of the burning building, even though it was obvious she was in immense pain he left, saying goodbye to nobody, all his colleagues at Torchwood were either dead or half converted, he had not friends and his family live in Wales anyway, and moving to Torchwood 3 would mean he could see them again.

Living off the food from the rucksack and the heat from the car for three days whilst tracking rift activity and giving Lisa (his girlfriend) as many painkillers as he felt he could afford, because she was still obviously in great pain, finally he found what he was looking for. Rift activity! Not far away either, he kissed Lisa's' cheek and ran. Upon arrival he found a Weevil (an ugly but extremely aggressive creature) fighting an extremely attractive man who he knew to be Captain Jack Harkness, head of Torchwood 3. And.. he was quite obviously losing. Ianto decided that this could be his way in, save the boss, show him what you know, they'd have to give him a job right?

Picking up a long, thick stick, Ianto whacked the creature around the head, giving Jack time to recover himself. After another short struggle Jack managed to knock the creature out, he then hoisted the dead wait on to his shoulders in a fireman lift and began to walk away, turning only to thank Ianto. Ianto shook the Captains hand and began to explain his predicament. Only to find that he had already turned his back and walked away, amazed by the bluntness of this gesture, Ianto stood there for a few minutes, unsure of what to do, before making his way back to the car. At least he could find the location of Torchwood three now, using the DNA tracker and the hand he had shaken Jacks' with. If they wouldn't give him a job, he's have to make them. Plus, he thought, the boss did have a really great coat.

Ianto was determined. He tracked the Captain, tried talking to him, telling him about himself before realizing it was no use. Ianto had even give him coffee, and his coffee was the best bloody coffee in Wales for Christs sake. He'd have to show him. But how? Then, almost as if it had coincided with his thoughts, the rift activity tracker buzzed. It was only a small blip, most likely too small for Torchwoods big computers to pick up. Excitedly Ianto put on his jacket and ran out, whilst tracking Jacks' whereabouts.
