Hazel looked up to her parents, purring. They were her life, and what kept her spirit up everyday. She watched her parents infront of her, their tails intwined. It was leaf-bare. The chilling winds were more ferocious in the open land of the moors. But the sun was shining like always, besides the days of the storms.

She really despised storms. It was hard to find a shelter to keep her and her parents safe. But there was one storm that knew always made her happy knowing of what it led to. Her mother told her countless times of the story of how, during a wild thunderstorm, her father rescued her from falling into a flooded river from a waterfall. From there, it was a secret her mother or father never told.

I want a happy ending like that...

She glanced at her parents again. Her father, Coal, had a dark grey pelt that was still scraggy and unwashed, but it still showed his strength from many battles from defended the Cats he loved. Her mother's tan fur had darker brown stripes, but was still the opposite of her father's. Sandy. Her pelt was sleek, and nicely washed. The sun even made it even shimmer a little bit. The sun didn't empashize her pelt, it just made it's beauty show even more.

She was just Hazel. Just Hazel who had Coal's grey pelt, and mother's yellowish-hazel eyes. Her parents were so great and deserved their happy ending. It was an ending, and Hazel being born was a new beginning.

I hope I do have a happy ending...but I wouldn't deserve it...

Her sweet, yet unpleasant thoughts were interrupted by Coal's sudden harsh voice. "Hazel! Run!" She awoke from her daydreaming into reality, and glanced around frantically. Her father was defending her and Sandy from a fox. Coal yelled out again. "Run! I'll be right behind you!"

Trusting him, she left her father without looking back. Her and Sandy left in a rush. The whole moor seemed to be spinning, and she lost track of her mother. She couldn't even track her with her scent! She frantically searched around. There wasn't any sign of her!

She decided to wait there, hoping her mother would find her there. But by the time the moon had risen, she had not seen any sign of her mother-or her father. She ran back to where the skirmish between the fox and Coal had been. Her eyes widened.

There, lay a dead fox, and her deceased father. She ran up to him. "Coal! Coal! Coal!" She shook him ferociously, but there was no answer. Smalls tears welded up in her eyes. She rested her muzzle on his. "Father! Oh, father!" She cried to herself. Her heart was crying out in pain, her soul begging for someone to comfort her. But no cat seemed to be there.

She knew her father was dead. But what about her mother? She would never know if her mother was alive or dead! And she was by herself!

My father is dead...I can't find my mother...How did this suddenly happen? Now I definitely won't have a happy ending.

How could I have one without my mother and father by my side?
