"Will you lend a helping hand to shelter those who need it?"
Here I am again…Standing in the street petitioning. Some of my friends tell me that it's pointless what I'm doing. You know, petitioning for a homeless shelter. I disagree…
I love doing what I do. The gratification that you get from knowing that you're helping someone who needs it is incredible. I can't even bring myself to describe it.
Like the other day, there was a woman and her five year old son who came into the shelter. I know that because of me, this boy will have food in his stomach, he'll go on to school and learn something great. He'll make a difference in the world because of one small random act of kindness.
I've always wanted to change the world. Ever since I was a little girl. My mother always told me that I would constantly bring strays home with me. Cats, dogs, you name it. I guess I've always had this calling to the homeless….
But I have what most others don't. Perseverance. I work hard to get what I want from society…even if it means standing outside in the middle of December waiting for people to sign my petition.
And then it starts all over again.
"Will, you lend a helping hand…?"
