Danny Tanner LOVED all 3 of his girls very much but after he lost Pam he had some conflict when it came to parenting. He could remember one incident in particular. It was one he did regret and he wished he made a better choice. He was new to the single parenting game though and he didn't know what else to do. It was probably one of the worst decisions he ever made.
Stephanie had been acting up all day and the final straw was when she threw a toy and Michelle.
"Stephanie," Danny said firmly, "we don't throw toys at people. Now I'm sorry but because you threw a toy at Michelle you lose Mr. Bear for a week. Now I want you to go upstairs and go to bed"
Stephanie stormed upstairs.
That night Danny woke up to Stephanie screaming. He could tell that Stephanie must have had a nightmare. He ran into his daughter's room to find her shaking and sobbing.
"Its okay honey," he assured her, "did you have a bad dream"
He gathered her to him as she sobbed and just rocked her and rubbed her back until she could talk.
"Mr… Mr. Bear go bye-bye like mommy," she cried.
Suddenly it all made sense to Danny. Stephanie wasn't acting up because she was feeling definite. She was acting up because she missed her mother.
Danny cursed himself inwardly for being so insensitive to his daughter's feelings but that wasn't going to help Stephanie.
"No honey, Mr. Bear didn't go bye-bye like mommy. Mr. Bear is right here… just in a different room"
Stephanie's eyes filled with tears and Danny's eyes filled soon after.
"You're such a big girl for your age… you act so grown up and sometimes daddy forgets that you're only a little girl."
"I am a little girl," Stephanie said
"Yes honey and its okay that you miss mommy. I miss mommy too."
"Why did mommy go away," Stephanie asked, "didn't she love us anymore?"
"Of course she did baby," Danny said, "but she had to go away because the Heavenly Father needed her to go back to Him"
"But we needed her"
"And you know what," Danny said, "she's still here. She's here in our thoughts. She's here in our hearts. She's here in our souls"
"I still miss her," she said.
"And," Danny added, "she's here in Mr. Bear"
"But Mr. Bear went bye-bye"
Danny brought back Mr. Bear.
"See," he said, "Mr. Bear is back"
