The Great Escape
Background: Tom Canty had been avidly fascinated of the stories Father Andrew had told him. Those stories made him fantasize a life as the prince of London in spite that there was not even a faint view of the possibility that his shitty life offered.
As his desire of becoming a prince grew increasingly each day, he really tramped the way to the palace, though the heat seemed to melt his feet's callous skin. He was hell-bent determined to gain entrance despite that he had an expectation that the guards would just thrash him until he would kiss the earth. During that time, he was dressed in his usual clothes of mendicancy. As soon as he arrived at the front gate of the palace, two grim-looking guards forcibly resisted him. One had a battle scar on his right cheek, had bulging eyes and his front tooth was missing. He had a big body build-up and stood tall and proud. The other had no battle scar on his face but two of his fingers were cut. He was a malnourish, scrawny, and a sunken-faced warrior whom you might say that he couldn't lift even his won sword. The first one pushed Tom's chest and the other grasped his poor clothes when he was about to stumble. He thought they, who were grinning, would wring his neck, but they never did. The big one, instead, lifted him by the neck and egg on his comrade to tickle Tom's funny bones. The thin one agreed; he did it until Tom laughed, cried and shouted to the exhaustion of his body. They laughed at him while he, who sat down, was taking the opportunity to gain energy. What a shameful act that was for those royal guards! However, Tom did not know that the prince, Edward Tudor heard his shout. No sooner had the prince arrived to ask the guards what that was he heard than Tom was ordered by the two freaks to get lost.
Tom left with disappointment and frustration to see and meet tête-à-tête a real prince. This Prince of Wales noticed him walking but already in a far distance. However, part of him was moved to see Tom fell twice on the ground. He was so intrigued of his personality that he contrived a trick to fool the guards.
"Burglars", he said pointing behind them. Then as swift as a knight's horse, he set the pace running until he got to the place where Tom was. At that time, Tom was again fantasizing, smiling at every wonderful animation in his mind without noticing that the prince was already in front of him, staring and seemed bewildered.
