Prologue Part 1

"The world right now, to be frank, is not what it could be. To say it's bleak is being optimistic. And with my mind. With our minds and our abilities we have to be able to do something."

Hank Pym flips through a thick packet full of equations and diagrams as he sits on the one clear spot of this cluttered desk. Its 1989 and this is the Baxter Building. The residence of Reed Richards, the world's greatest mind, and his family.

"Well Reed that's a bold goal. By what I'm looking at here, I can tell it's not just some dream of yours. Looking into possible futures? Are you sure this 'Gate' will work?" Pym says closing the packet.

"I'm sorry? Oh-well-More or less. There are just a few kinks that need to be worked out but other than that, all I need to do is to turn it on." Reed responds.

"You need to be sure because this thing could do a hell of a lot more than that trip to space did. Be honest with me Reed, why do you really need this Gate?"

"It obvious Cold War might be wrapping up but who's to say what's around the corner. There is so much uncertainty in the world. There are so many unanswered questions about tomorrow. I mean you know as well as I do that we have no idea what's happening out there. We're men of science and politics escape us. Just look at S.H.E.I.L.D. They don't just hold your collar, they hold ours. My friends didn't ask me to turn them into-" Reed stretches to a board with blurred classified images of the four. "-these things. It's the least I can do for them."

"I'm getting a sense that this isn't about the world, Reed."

"Susan and I are trying to start a family. We're trying to get out of this life of extra dimensions and mole monsters and we're going to settle down and start a family… and I want to be sure that there is a future that is good enough for our children."

"Reed. I understand you I do and you say you're doing this for the right reasons but I think you're brain is getting in the way of your heart." Hank is about to walk out of the lab when he turns around, "Look I have faith in you, you're a much smarter man than I'll ever be but you need to remember what this is about. It's about them. It's about your family. Don't forget what's important."
