Drunken Illusion
Sam glanced up as he heard the tell tail sound of wings. He was drunk. On a very large scale. It was coming up to the anniversary of Gabriels death and, the same as every year, Sam was taking it hard.
"Hey Gabe..." Sam said slurred. This normally happened around this time. Sam got heavily drunk and hallucinated Gabe. He didn't know how he hallucinated but he did.
"Hey, Drunky. Trying to beat your alcohol tolerance again? Lucky for me, eh." Gabriel murmured.
Sam let out a confused sound, "Wha...?" Gabriel shook his head, "Nothing." Sam grunted before patting his knee. Gabriel hesitated before walking over and sitting, "Long time, no talk. Hey, Sammich..." Sam wrapped his arms around Gabriel and pulled his close, breathing in his scent. It was almost as if Gabriel was actually there with him, and not a hallucination. He felt Gabriel freeze before relaxing and leaning into Sam, "I missed you too Sammich. Too bad you won't remember this in the morning." Sam didn't respond.
"How's your brother? Heard he's in a hard place." Sam grunted and shifted slightly so he was slightly more comfortable with Gabriel in his lap, "Shakespeare?" He asked. Gabriel smiled sadly, "Why doth thee make thy heart weep? Barely a year since seen last but still you make me mourn as you mourn me. I ask for forgiveness as I never come when you pray. Tis all for protection. If you care for me like I love thee, you will understand. Your drunken, torn soul makes my sadness burst..."
Gabriel sighed and glanced at Sam, "You okay, Kiddo?" Sam sniffled and shook his head, Gabriel hugged him tenderly. "C'mon, Sammy, don't cry."
He started humming and rocking gently, "Carry on my wayward son, there'll be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to rest, don't you cry no more~" Sam sniffling slowly stopped, "That... That song..." He said slowly, Gabriel made a questioning noise, "Mum used to sing it... As a lullaby." Sam explained.
Gabriel gave Sam a sad smile, almost as if he knew. He kept humming and slowly Sam fell asleep. Gabriel flew him to his bed, tucking him in and giving him a kiss on his forehead, "Sleep well, Sammy. Angels are watching over you."
With a flutter of wings, Gabriel was gone with no trace that he was there and knowing Sam would think it was a drunken illusion.
