A Night In

Ziva David glanced at her boyfriend as she turned the page of her book. Tim McGee was sitting on the couch next to her with his laptop on his lap where he was currently typing words onto the screen. She smiled as she turned back to her next chapter. She had never thought she would turn into one of those people who liked to sit at home and simply read with her significant other. Though in this situation she was reading and he was writing. Never the less, she had come to enjoy it and look forward to it.

When they first started dating, they went out a few nights a week. Usually it was drinks or a late dinner. If they had a free weekend they would spend a few hours in the park walking Jethro. They were now in November and the weather had gotten considerably colder. Soon their routine turned to staying in at night, curled up on the couch or reading and writing like they were tonight.

A banging on the door broke both of their concentrations. Ziva watched as Tim stood up and made his way to the door. Jethro looked up at Ziva from his spot on the floor, next to the fireplace. "Some watch dog you are," She whispered. Jethro simply wagged his tail at his master's mate.

McGee was trying to figure out who could possibly be on his doorstep at this time of night. He received a surprise when he opened the door to find DiNozzo.

"Probie!"

"Um, Tony, what are you…doing here?" McGee glanced over his shoulder at the living room where Ziva was currently sitting. No one at work knew about their relationship, for obvious reasons. If DiNozzo found out, they would never hear the end of it.

"What I can't just stop by?"

"You don't usually."

Tony chuckled. "Well…the hot water in my building has gone out and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind letting me…" He trailed off to flash a smile.

"Normally I would, but this isn't a good time, so…"

"Wait a second!" Tony exclaimed and tried to peek into the house. "You have someone over don't you?" He gave his friend a smile.

"That, that's none of your business Tony!"

"Aww come on, who is she? Introduce me to her!" Tony then shouldered his way past McGee, who muttered a "Crap" before chasing after his friend. He rounded the corner to find Tony staring at Ziva who was still sitting on the couch reading. Tony stared at the Israeli before speaking slowly. "Ziiiiiva?"

"Yes Tony?" Ziva responded without looking up from her book.

"What cha doin?"

"I'm reading. A foreign concept to you, I know."

Tony tilted his head. "Reading? In your pajamas? In…McGee's house?"

Ziva sighed and looked up at Tony. "Is that a problem DiNozzo?" She asked giving him a glare.

"I just…" Tony then began to look around. Jethro was laying next to the fire in the fireplace. There were two glasses of wine on the coffee table and Ziva was in flannel pants and a tank top. Everything finally clicked. "I guess I better leave." He whispered.

"Goodnight Tony," Ziva said, her book already open again.

McGee patted the confused Tony on the back as he followed him out of the room. Once they were at the door, Tony turned to look at McGee. "Seriously?" McGee shrugged. Tony nodded his approval. "Congratulations Probie."

McGee gave him a surprised look. "Thanks Tony." Hearing them from the living room, Ziva smiled.

Tony gave him a wave as he walked out the door. McGee sighed and rubbed his neck before heading back to the living room. He stopped to pet Jethro for a moment before re joining Ziva on the couch. Tony's impromptu visit had ruined his writing mode. He picked up his glass of wine and leaned back into the couch. Peeking over her book Ziva moved her feet forward to McGee's lap and McGee unconsciously began to rub them. Ziva went back to reading with a smile on her face.

A.N. – I know that in the show McGee has an apartment, not a house, just go with it. :)
