Eames always had feelings for mal. Even though they've been friends for so long, and Cobb is with her. There is still that aching feeling of longing when Mal smiles at Cobb lovingly, Eames wishes he were the one being smiled at like he is somebody's whole for now, he will have to settle with being her friend... and being with Arthur.
