Author's Notes: Hello, I used to be an author of Fanfiction.net under a different
name, I believe it was "Alias." However, a difficult situation in my life led me
to decide to "wipe the slate clean," as they say, and start anew. I spent many, many
moons away from Fanfiction.net, and now that I got "all that stuff" worked out, I have
returned to Fanfiction.net as "pinappleminivan." I am reposting my old story, and it
is my sincerest hope that you all who read it before will take a look at it again,
for old times sake (lol). Thank you for your time.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters or the idea of the concert. That all
belongs to Disney. This is just a fanfic, please don't sue me!
Counting steps
One. Two. Three. Four.
Orion counted his steps as he walked down the austere corridor, a hallway silent save for his carefully measured foot falls upon the cold metal floor.
One. Two. Three. Four.
The dim lights shone on his brown leather jacket. He had worn it for her. And now, tonight at the concert, he was going to ask her to dance.
One. Two. Three. Four.
After many steps the unmistakable beat of a bass guitar could not only be heard, but felt throughout the corridor. His feet soon fell in step with the beat.
One Two. Three Four.
Orion walked in time with the music. The beat carried him to the entrance of the concert, already in progress. He was swept inside, carried along with the great mass of people en route to the concert.
There was no time for counting steps now.
A great rush of color and sound surrounded all in the concert hall. Ordinarily reserved scientists and doctors were seen dancing with nary a care to their reputation. Of course, just as there where those who danced without an afterthought, so there were many who did not wish to dance, and they stood upon the dance floor swaying silently to the music. Each expressed themselves in their own manner.
Orion found even himself moving in time to the music, and he allowed himself to dance, leaving hesitation behind. He was but one among the many, living in the music. Orion danced, thinking of nothing but the sound, but then he suddenly stopped.
He saw her.
She was dancing, eyes bright with excitement. Surrounded by friends and family, she was truly living in the moment.
Orion suddenly remembered his plans in the dark corridor just a few minutes before. Filled with a new resolve, he wove in between and around the people dancing, attempting to go and finally get just one dance. Orion approached her from behind. She was still unaware of his presence, still dancing, still laughing. Orion attempted to remember the perfect words that would impress her so, yet before Orion had even begun to think, she turned around to face him. She smiled, the smile of someone who felt as if they were sharing a wonderful experience with the other person.
All of his carefully crafted speeches, all his suave plans that were sure to secure one dance were suddenly forgotten.
The look in her eyes was enough.
They said nothing, yet as she turned around to once again watch the band, an irresistible grin spread across Orion's features. He danced, perhaps with even more zeal than before, knowing that one look was enough.
