A songfic from the point of view of Lucius Malfoy, reflecting on Narcissa, and how she's shaping his "new life". ( ^_~ ) Warning: Do not read if you're allergic to teasers, I'm thinking of using this as a pilot for a series of short stories.

It's set to Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac, and I do beg your pardon if this version is different to the one you've heard. This one is from The Dance, their live CD, and you know how bands like to bugger about with their lyrics during live performances. ^_^" Oh, and please try not to skip over the song lyrics too much, they do provide a fair bit of explanation, if you think about them in relation to the story.

Rating Warnings: Um…no. Not unless you've got an extremely overactive imagination. ^_^" Perhaps some mild cussing in later chapters, but you know I don't like to go over the top. ^_^

~Skylark~

by Belladonna Sinistra

Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night

Wouldn't you love to love her?

She rules her life like a bird in flight

Who will be her lover?

All your life you've never seen a woman

Taken by the sky

Well, would you stay if she offered to you heaven

Would you even try?

And he says, "Rhiannon, don't go"

And he says, "Rhiannon, stay"

And he says, "I still cry out for you,

Don't leave me, don't leave me…"

Why am I doing this? Why am I going to offer my help to that Muggle-loving old fool, Dumbledore? The answer's always the same- for you. For the same reason I do everything, for you and for Draco. I wish it had never come this far, Narcissa, I wish I'd listened to you before. Then maybe you wouldn't have had to threaten to leave, and take our son with you. I know it hurt you to say that, but I also knew you'd do it. You've never been one to bluff. I need you, though. I don't know if I ever told you, but I need you. You were my lighthouse, shining out across a sea of darkness. Whether I knew it or not, you were always there. Don't go, Narcissa, don't leave me. I know you're right.

She is like a cat in the dark

Then, baby, she is your darkness

She rules her life like a fine skylark

When the sky is starless

Once in a million years a lady like her rises

Oh no, Rhiannon, you cry, but she's gone

Your life knows no answer

Your life knows no answer…

You were one in a million, do you know that? I've never met anyone else like you- you could stalk like a cat in the dark, yet soar like a beautiful skylark against the midnight sky. I'd never thought of you as someone who would like to fly, but the first time I saw you, out on the Quidditch pitch in the middle of the night…I called out to you then, but you'd already gone, taken by the sky…

Your dreams unwind, love's a state of mind

Your dreams unwind, and still it's a state of mind, I know

Dreams unwind, and still it's hard to find, I know

Take me like the wind, child

Take me with the sky

Take me now

All the same

All the same

All the same, Rhiannon…

I wonder if this is how you pictured your life, Narcissa. Being married to a man like me, someone who'll probably end up wearing a pink fluffy bunny suit one of these days, just to please his master. Well, not any more. I'm going to make you proud, Narcissa, and I'm never going to look back. Voldemort can go to hell, and take his followers with him. Funny, really. When you're one of them, you think you're an individual, but when you look at them from the outside, you see they're all the same…

Maybe I should take Dumbledore a little present- I'm sure Black would like to see his little ratty friend again…

And he still cries out for her

"Don't leave me now…"
