A/N: I don't expect any of you to know this song; it's country. Before you all leave please just give it a chance. I was listening to it the other day and I thought it fit really well. So anyway.

Disclaimer: I don't own the Labyrinth but I love the peoples who do; thanks for such a great movie guys! I don't own the song, SHeDaisy does but I love them too!

The First To Let Go

Sarah threw herself onto the bed crying as Jareth stood there watching her. She'd called for him, asking him to come back, telling him how sorry she was. But when he'd appeared it was only to tell her to get on with her life. She'd cried, begging him to take her back, only to be refused.

In my meager defense,

I've tried to make sense,

Of the chaos that clutters my mind.

You could nail to my soul,

Every reason to go,

But the reason to stay I would find.

She didn't understand why he'd refused her. She'd always been certain that he loved her. So if she was finally admitting that she loved him why wouldn't he take her back?

'Cause there is no resolution,

Or clear-cut conclusion,

As I'm caught between the ebb and flow.

But for you I'll discover

The will to recover.

For you I'll be first to let go.

Sarah'd had a boyfriend for a year now, trying to forget about Jareth. Just the other night he'd proposed to her and Sarah hadn't known what to say. She'd told him to give her some time. Now she didn't know what to do. It appeared that Jareth didn't love her any more.

I'm not his, I'm not yours.

I'm not mine anymore.

Somehow the silver lining was torn.

And we won't get too far,

With the door just ajar,

Only whispers keeping us warm.

And it was then Jareth told her. He was no longer in love with her. He'd moved on.

'Cause there is no resolution,

Or clear-cut conclusion,

As I'm caught between the ebb and flow.

But for you I'll discover,

The will to recover.

For you I'll be first to let go.

The first to let go.

I'll send you a lullaby,

Across the burnt orange sky.

So looking to heaven you'll know,

For you I let go.

He was married. He'd found someone new. They were expecting a child in a few months. He said that he hoped she would just get on with her life. And he left.

When I see on your face,

One day I've been replaced,

I'll smile as I watch you fly.

And say one grateful prayer,

To the angel who's there.

And cry for the one left behind.

Sarah sat up slowly. He was married. His wife was with child. He was lost to her forever. And then she thought about her boyfriend. He loved her. He'd even tolerated all her stories of the Labyrinth when everyone else had called her crazy. She realized that it was very likely that she loved her boyfriend back.

'Cause there is no resolution,

Or clear-cut conclusion,

As I'm caught between the ebb and flow.

But for you I discovered,

The will to recover.

For you I was first to let go.

The first to let go.

Sarah tried to imagine saying no to her boyfriend and realized that she couldn't picture her life without him. He was always there for her. And she realized that she couldn't say no to him because she loved him back.

Sarah wondered if she'd mourn over the loss of Jareth. She decided she wouldn't. She was happy for him. He'd let go and moved on. If he could do that, so could she.
