The Traitor

An orange-cloaked monk walked up the stone staircase that led up to a crimson temple. Many guards lined the path into the building, sure to prevent any threats from entering the sacred place. The monk continued until he reached the top. In front of him was an elaborately designed pair of doors. They towered over the monk at ten feet high, almost as impressive as the Earth King's door in Ba Sing Se.

The monk pushed the doors open and walked into a warm room. It was large and the walls were decorated with Fire Nation emblems and pictures of past Fire Lords. Torches lit the room and kept it warm.

The monk continued toward a large throne surrounded by huge flames. As he walked, he noticed the floor was made of solid steel. He had always admired the Fire Nation's great advancement. They discovered steel. Of course the other nations had caught up recently, but the Fire Nation had always been ahead of the other three, always more powerful.

Finally, he reached the flaming throne and he stopped. "What business do you have here, air bender?" The monk removed his hood to reveal his face.

"I know your plans, Sozin." He stared into the Firelord's eyes as he noticed a few guards coming forward from behind him.

The monk could have sworn he saw fear in Sozin's eyes before they returned to normal. "What plans?"

The monk felt the guards behind him starting to aim their spears at him. "Your plans to conquer the world, of course." Now he knew he saw fear in Sozin's stare.

"And what exactly to you presume to do about them?" He glared at the monk, wanting to blow his head off with a blast of flame.

The monk grinned. "Help you." Sozin wore a shocked look on his face. He didn't know whether to believe him or not, but something in the monk's glance told him that he was telling the truth.

"Who are you?!" Sozin longed for his guards to strike their spears through the air bender's back, but they were just as shocked as he was.

The monk kept his grin and gave a slight chuckle. "My name is Afiko, and I am from the Southern Air Temple." He looked toward the guards behind him, then back at Sozin. "I am here to help you win your war."

Afiko revealed to Sozin the locations of the hidden Air Temples and helped him defeat his fellow monks. He betrayed his brothers and sided with the enemy. He sealed the fate of the Air Nomads.
