"Uhhh…It hurts…"

"Taken it like a champ, Mikasa…Good. This is the symbolism of our clan, which we have to pass down. When you have children of your own, you'll give it to them, too."

Mikasa was silent for a few moments. The reason her hand was hurting so much was because she had just underwent a painful scarring ritual from her mother, who'd cut the mark of their clan into her delicate skin. Being the last of their race made them of high value, which really urged her mother to pertain to her clan's orthodox ways. Mikasa knew she was expected to perform this same ritual on her own future children. But one thing was unclear. "Hey, mommy? How do you make children?"

Mr. Ackerman was clearly phased by this question coming from his young daughter. Meanwhile, his wife had stopped dead in her tracks, pursing her lips, pensive. "…Erm. Why don't you ask your dad?"

The man shot her a desperate look, clearly upset at her for dumping such a question on him.

"How, dad?"

"Well…" he began, hesitant. "I'm not too sure of it myself," Mr. Ackerman lied, "But Doctor Jaeger is arriving shortly for your examination. Why don't you ask him when he gets here?" The girl was obviously unhappy with this answer, but nodded and agreed nonetheless.

Not an hour had passed before there was a knock on the door. "Ah, that must be him. That was fast," Mr. Ackerman said, walking over to the door to answer it. Swinging open the door to reveal a man and his young son, Mr. Ackerman smiled. "Hello, Grisha. This is your son?" he asked, looking down at the little boy whom was trying to hide his face behind his father's leg.

Dr. Grisha Jaeger smiled slightly and nodded curtly. "Yes, this is Eren. I wanted him to meet Mikasa."

Mrs. Ackerman grinned as she walked over to the doorway to meet the doctor. "Well, that would be just lovely," the woman said happily, turning to look at her daughter. Gently touching the small of her child's back, Mrs. Ackerman pushed Mikasa toward Eren. "Here, Mikasa," her mother began, "This is Dr. Jaeger's son, Eren."

"Eren. Go introduce yourself to Mikasa," Grisha ordered Eren. The raven haired girl looked inquisitive, tilting her head to one side as Dr. Jaeger ordered his son to introduce himself.

The brunet awkwardly scratched his cheek, hesitating before saying, "Hi…nice to meet you."

"Eren! Did you do it properly?" his father asked.

"I-I did!" Eren replied quickly, looking embarrassed.

"Really?" his father pushed, raising a suspicious brow.

"I really did…!" the boy insisted once more. That's when he was interrupted by the sound of suppressed laughter. It was coming from Mikasa in a little "pfft" sound. It was kind of cute. The corners of the girl's lips twitched upward into a smile. Eren's lips thinned into a straight line as he stared at Mikasa silently, feeling more embarrassed now as his cheeks developed a light pink color. "Ah.."

"I'm Mikasa. Nice to meet you…Eren!" the girl greeted happily, smiling brightly.

Hopefully this could be the start of a wonderful friendship.

Hehe, I gave up on trying to write for this site a while ago, oops. Well, I'm back kind of sort of…though I doubt anyone missed me. Anyway, this is basically a story I decided I wanted to try, based on a comic I found on tumblr that made me very happy. I know this is short, but I don't care!
