She sat there, watching me with narrowed eyes.

"You don't drink blood?"

I couldn't quite grasp why she said it like 'You don't drink soda?' for the life of me.

"We do. Just not human blood. We try and stay away from that, though there are certainly plenty of us who still see you humans as a main course meal."

She shuddered. Good, she needed to be scared.

"What do you eat then?"

There was determination flickering in her eyes that caused me to stir in my own seat. Something that I wished she'd be doing instead of myself.

"Animal's blood."

Nodding, she took a swig of her lemonade as her fingers lightly tapped to a soft rhythm.

I could picture it in my head, the way she should have jumped from her seat, eyes wide and scared as her heart raced. Hands shaking. Her body already starting to bolt away from me. Instead, stubbornly she faced one of the most deadly creatures roaming the Earth, signing her death wish.

"So," She paused as I watched her fiddle around with her bottle "is there any special type of animals you like to...hunt?"

My brow rose as she tried not to say kill.

"We don't run around chasing squirrels if that's what you are wondering."

A huge smile split her lips as she thought of something, her eyes unfocused. Damn did I ever hate not being able to read this one puny little human girl.

"What are you thinking?"

She quickly jumped back, her attention on me. The amusement of whatever she was thinking still danced in her mind. "Emmett," she said and a surge of unknown jealousy went through me which died by her next words "chasing squirrels up trees."

We were both shocked when we started to laugh, together.
