Mission: Failure
A small creature crawled across the barren landscape. Its tentacle-like whiskers twitched slightly as it scoured the ground for food. The place was silent; no loud, destructive military machines were nearby. All were gathered at the capitol, waiting for transportation to a new planet.
The animal didn't know that, though. All it had was its sense of survival. The eagerness for the food which had become so scarce. And the knowledge that discovery = bad.
Light gusts of wind blew over the still, rocky ground. Sharp, razor-like ears poked up, scanning for any sound that might betray a predator.
Then, the so-called "predator" came. It swooped in from the darkened, purple sky with a loud whirring noise and a blinding flash of light. The animal let out a squelching sound, and scurried away on its five nimble legs.
If the creature had not been so concerned for its safety, it might've seen the entrance of the mysterious object open. If it wasn't blinded by the light, it would've seen two slender figures descend toward the ground. If it had better vision, it possibly could've seen the small, promising object that one of those figures held; an object that would revive the dying planet that it inhabited. But more importantly, it it hadn't run away, it would've seen the approaching lights of something that probably would kill off all hope of reviving the planet.
For the military hadn't taken any chances for the deaths of the two younglings. Only one Siphon had been deployed to intercept them at Earth, but many had been told to lie in ambush, waiting, just in case they had survived, and returned. These assassins were well-trained, camouflaging into the deserted area in a way that rarely anyone could find them. They all had tele-blockers, to prevent the girl from sensing them. They had a gadget that could return any object to its original density. Most importantly, they were invulnerable.
And therefore, invincible.
The two unsuspecting 'aliens' exited the vehicle, and looked around. To them, the area was quiet, deserted, and safe. That was what they wanted, of course; they couldn't be detected before they had given the thing that would revive the planet to the government. The military would probably be hot on their tails, and defeat them.
The sense of security was not destined to last long. As soon as the targets turned their attention away from their surroundings and conversed with each other, the hidden Siphons attacked.
There wasn't much fight; with most of their powers rendered useless, they soon succumbed to the steady battering that the trained assassins put up. It was a futile battle to begin with, and before long, the Siphons had destroyed the planet's only hope, and left the would-be deliverers on the ground for dead.
Back at the station, a message was paged in to the General. He read it silently, and when he finished, he nodded to his subordinate. "They're ready."
And with those two, fatal words, the fate of the Earth was sealed.
A/N: I just watched Race to Witch Mountain last night, and I just thought of this idea. Hope you liked it. I didn't know what to call the weird thing Seth and Sara got from the Earth, to revive their planet; sorry about the extremely weird names. Also, sorry for some of the less-descriptive words. The synonym, spell-check, and grammar-check thing just went bust, so I had to make do with an online one. Thanks for reading.
