You can't help but smile every night, when Dean insists he has to tell his baby brother goodnight before he goes to bed. So, before even heading to his room, you watch him as he goes into the nursery, climbs the stool by the crib to see Sammy, and quietly whispers, "Goodnight."
It's a routine that hasn't changed since even before Sammy was born – except then, Dean would be whispering his "Goodnights" to your stomach.
But you smiled as you watched him then, too.
"I'm gonna be a big brother," he'd said.
Yeah, baby, you'd thought. A very good one.
