A/N: The title really has nothing to do with the story. I like the idea of Ernie and Hermione, and this song kind of made me think of this.
Words: 532.
Pairings: Ernie Macmillan, Hermione Granger.

Oh, I've got this friend,
a loveless romantic,
All he really wants is someone to love him back;
"Hermione!" Ernie yelled out, chasing her onto the grounds. They had been studying for Potions and she had stolen his book, running out the library, leaving her books and quills behind. He got up as she was half way down the corridor, leaving his stuff as well, before chasing after her.
"Hermione!" he yelled again as she ran down towards the Black Lake and then up a small hill. He didn't know where she kept all this energy.
"Yes, Ernie?" Hermione's voice drifted to him, a laugh coming soon after. Her hair was wild and bushy, flowing behind her as she ran. She was only wearing her required white button down shirt, Gryffindor tie, skirt, and shoes. Everything else had been left behind in the library.
Finally he caught up to her as she ran behind a large tree. He stood on the opposite of the tree, trying to catch his breath. His face was slightly pink, his hair was a mess, and his Hufflepuff tie was coming undone. The sleeves to his uniform shirt were already half way up his arm. The bottom of his pants were slowly getting dirt on them.
"Hermione," he breathed out. "Can I ask why you've taken my Potions book?"
"Can you?"
Laughing airily, Ernie smiled at her. "May I ask why you've taken my Potions book?"
Shrugging, Hermione walked from behind the tree and stood in front of him. "I don't know—I thought it'd be funny. Plus, I know you know all of this."
"Oh really now?"
"Yeah. You always get Outstandings on your potions work. Don't give me that look either. We've been studying together for almost a year now, so I think I know what your overall grade is in potions."
Smirking, Ernie grabbed his potions book from Hermione's hands, running towards the castle.
"Ernie Macmillan! Get back here!" Hermione yelled as she chased after him. As soon as she got almost right behind him, she grabbed his shoulder and pulled him down on the ground, laughing. He landed next to her on his back, his book flying behind his head. She landed on her back as well, smiling up at the sky.
Ernie looked over at her and started laughing as well, looking at Hermione. He watched her roll onto her stomach, using her arms to prop her up. Her face was above his—close enough for him to smell her breath, which smelled like peppermints—and he could feel her hair on his shoulders.
He reached his hand up and put a piece of hair behind her ear, his finger tracing her jaw line. His face was becoming redder by the minute, and this time it wasn't because he was running.
Hermione unconsciously leaned forward and Ernie did the same, his head coming off the ground slightly. They only kissed for a fraction of a second, but both of their faces were brightly colored.
Standing up, Hermione grabbed his potions book and ran off towards the castle, Ernie following her soon after, yelling out, "Hermione!"
