never enough

The last thing Molly expected when Bella told her to meet her at the Black Lake was... this. Perhaps that had been her first mistake.

"I'm getting married, Molly." Bellatrix tossed her hair over her shoulder, giving her a hungry look. "But we have one last time together before you end up dead from your own foolishness."

Molly glared at her lover. "You said you loved me, Bella. You told me you had no plans to join You-Know-Who. You told me a lie, Bella. You said I could trust you!"

At that, Bellatrix seemed a little surprised and a touch hurt, but she quickly recovered, pulling herself up to her full height. "It's like you said; you can't trust anyone! I am not foolish enough to side with Dumbledore and his goons over the Dark Lord. He is a man of great power and upon mine and Rodolphus's engagement, I will do my family proud, something I don't expect you to understand."

Molly shook her head in disgust, walking away from Bellatrix and to the edge of the lake. Bellatrix followed a moment later, looking at her from under dark, hooded eyes.

"I loved you," Molly said. "And this is what I get. No 'I'm so sorry I broke up with you' or 'Molly, you meant something to me. I shouldn't even be surprised, but I am. I never expected you to be my kryptonite."

Bellatrix didn't respond, choosing instead to drag her feet across the top of the water. It created ripples and Molly shook her head in disgust. They had had their first kiss here, stolen and desperate and mischievous. It had been a shock to them both, how well suited they were, but Bellatrix's love was fast and obsessive and Molly's temper and viciousness ran deep.

"It couldn't be helped, Molly. I am a taker... You need a giver. Perhaps one of your own can provide you that, but I won't make you any promises I can't keep."

"I don't believe that you're doing this just because you care," Molly hissed. "You're selfish. You could go ahead and let me drown now in this lake, for all I trust you. I hate you, Bellatrix Black. I hate you for breaking my heart."

Bellatrix glared right back. "Fine. It's your funeral."

Bellatrix stormed off back to this castle and Molly watched her go. She never turned back and Molly sighed. The tears were beginning to pour but she couldn't bring herself to care. She hadn't expected it, and by Merlin, it hurt. She wanted Bellatrix to come back and apologize, but they both knew that never would happen.

She was now utterly alone.
