Slumped against a dirtied wall, he wept.

Tears spilt from frozen amber orbs as they stared off into nothing.

An occasional whimper escaped past swollen lips.

He jerked back against the white wall, a shaky hand reaching up to brush away a few stray tears.

He breathed a shuddered breath, attempting to contain himself.

Slumping forward, he gave up, leaning his head against his knees, sweat combining with tears.

A door slamming from beneath his floor jolted him back into his sitting position.

Fear streaked across his face, breath hitching.

His heart beat within his ears as footsteps made their way towards his location.

He took a deep breath, trying to prevent himself from hyperventalating.

The footsteps grew louder, more spaced, as they approached, looming within the hall. Beyond a door. A thin, white door.

He stiffened as the footsteps halted before that door.

His protection was being threatened.

A soft knock sounded upon the door.

He stopped breathing, and listened.

Silence followed. His chest burned.

"Katusya?" The voice calmed him, and he let out a sigh of relief, slumping back against the wall.

"Yeah, dad?" He croaked, berrating himself for sounding so hoarse.

"What are you doing in there? Are you ok?" Came his father's question, his voice deep and soothing.

It was his little sliver of light in his nightmare.

"I'm ok, dad. I'm just tired." Was his responce, a shaky hand running through his oily blond hair.

"Can I come in?" He heard his father shift closer to the door, and he knew his hand now rested upon his doorknob.

"Um, no. I'll be out in a minute. I just need to shower..." He replied just above a whisper.

"Well, ok. If you're alright..." There was hesitation, and then the sound of heavy shoes, leaving.

They stopped, and his breath hitched once again.

"Katsuya? You do know that you can tell me any... anything that's bothering you, right?" His father questioned.

A small smile tugged at those swollen, bloodied lips.

"Yeah, dad... Thanks." Katsuya replied, sitting up straight.

"Ok. I love you, kid." And then the footsteps resumed, heading downstairs.

His smile grew.

"I love you too, dad." He sighed, lifting himself up onto his feet.

And then there was silence.

"What does it mean, mommy?" The child questioned eagerly, small hands tugging at her apron.

The older woman smiled down at him, letting out a small laugh.

She pulled the thick blue covers up to his chin, tucking him in.

She brushed away the blond bangs from his forehead, leaning down to place a soft kiss upon it.

He giggled softly and then yawned, blinking sleepily.

"They say that when there is silence," She ruffled his hair affectionately "An angel is flying over you."
