The cargo hold light reflected off of the soldier's black and gold helmet. He sighed, looking around. Unknown and Petch were in a deep conversation. Awriter had gone to sleep and Colezilla and Lightning were checking on the freelancer chick, Carolina was it?
Cogg sighed. He had lost three teammates to that covenant warships, plus a couple of enemy/temporary teammates. No one knew, not even Petch, but Cogg cared for the enemy. They had lost Bluetongue, who, by Cogg's standards, was pretty cool. Then the god damn freelancer came and murdered him. Then the warship came, took his teammates, blue and red.
Cogg took off his helmet, his brown hair falling down, the faces of the taken flashed through his mind. Zoey, Ace, Guy. The blues, Lili and Spritey.
Spritey… Cogg winced inwardly. He flashed to when he had fallen asleep in the middle of battle. Spritey, then not even knowing who he or Petch were, defended them against Lili. He owed her his life…and yet he still tried to kill her during the fight for their information.
Petch came up to Cogg.
"You okay?" She asked, seeing the worry on his face. Cogg quickly breathed in and put on a fake smile.
"I'm fine, just a little shook up." Cogg smiled at her. Petch, once again, bought the act. Everyone did. Everyone thought Cogg as the carefree Spartan who cracked jokes to keep peoples spirits up. In fact, Cogg cracked the jokes to keep his spirits up. He was the Spartan who just wanted to stop the death of the ones he cared about. He had seen enough death. Petch knew most of his file was classified, but she just assumed it was a bombing or something of the sort. She had no idea...
"Alright, just making sure. We're going to get to the warship soon enough." She said, before going to check on the pilot. Cogg's smiled dropped, and he looked out the window, before grabbing a sniper.
He was going to get them out alive, he thought, reaching for a mag, before sliding it into the gun. The sound echoed in the quiet hold. Even, if it cost him his life.
