The girl stopped and listened to the rain hitting the tin roof. Sighing, she shrugged a rain coat on and picked up an umbrella. Once outside, she looked to the drab, gray sky that seemed to move infinitely along the horizon. Sighing, she started his journey to school. As she walked along the road, the girl thought of many things, first off, it was her birthday and her parents had to work today. Secondly, she thought of the TV show she forgot to record, but that didn't matter, today was her birthday, today she was getting her first Pokemon.
"Happy Birthday Phoebe!" One of her classmates, her name doesn't matter, called out to her. "Thanks," Phoebe answered. Homeroom started, the teacher droned on about something that also didn't matter, and Phoebe stared out the window, wanting to be somewhere else. After an interminable wait school ended and Phoebe walked home, her hood pulled up and her umbrella warding off torrents of water.
"I'm home!" No one answered, of course. As Phoebe was about to sit down and watch some TV before starting on homework, she saw a brown parcel with a note attached to it. She walked over to it and picked up the note: Dear Phoebe, sorry that your mother and I can't celebrate your birthday with you today. To make up for it I got you a very special gift! Love, Dad.
Phoebe put the note down and slowly opened the parcel, her heart thumping. Inside was a Pokeball. She reached in and extracted it, inside hundreds of possibilities. She pressed the button and out came a brilliant flash of light. After the light died in its place was a small rodent-like Pokemon with a tan belly and dark arms. It's most prominent feature was the cabbage-esque hoody over it's head. Chespin! The Pokemon cried. Phoebe gasped.
"YOU'RE SO CUTE!"
The Pokemon flinched, it's eyes expressed a terrified look. "Oh, I must have scared you, I'm very sorry," said Phoebe, "So I'm guessing your name is Chespin then?" The Pokemon nodded. "Well since I'm your trainer I think I could give you a much better name, what should I call you?" Both Phoebe and Chespin pondered over this. "Oh! I know, how about Hari?" Chespin! Exclaimed the Pokemon. "All right, Hari it is."
"Mom, Dad, I'm going on an adventure with Hari." Phoebe's Mom and Dad looked at each other. "Sweetie," began her mother, "We knew this day would come, and we have been saving up for your journey ever since you were born. Both of us only have one condition, no, make that two. First, be careful, the world is a much different place than here in the city, and two, come back home occasionally so we can see how much you've grown."
The next morning Phoebe slung her bag over her shoulder. Hari followed her as she went out the door and waved her parents goodbye. She didn't know when she would see them again, but it didn't matter. A new journey was about to begin.
