clouds of sulfur in the air, bombs are falling everywhere, it's heartbreak warfare.

As Sinead silently creeped out of the door, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of regret. She looked back one last time and mouthed an apology to Evan, to Ian, to everyone in the Cahill family; most especially to her so-called best friend, Amy. She closed the door behind her and just like that, she completely let go of her life as a Cahill.

Halfway through her journey to the airport, along the highway, she hit the brake of her SUV. In front of her car (yes, in the middle of the highway - good thing it was just the crack of dawn, so no one was there) was her long time secret boyfriend, Hamilton Holt. He stood in front of her headlights at three o'clock in the morning, looking restless, but she could tell that behind his tired eyes, different feelings were present - anger, disappointment, frustration and love. She could only stare at the heartbreaking sight of her former boyfriend.

"Go ahead," he shouted. "Run over me! It's not like I care, just kill me already!" The pain and anger in his voice made Sinead flinch. Tears welled up in her eyes. By instinct, she got out of the car and hugged him. Hamilton jerked away from her.

"You think that I don't know? I don't know your little Vesper Three act?" Hamilton told her. In response, Sinead's jaw dropped and she froze in place.

"What were we the whole time, Sinead?" he asked softly, but anger was clear in his voice. "Was everything just a big joke between us? Did you fake everything for the Vespers? Was I one big fat joke to you? Was I -"

"Stop it, Hamilton!" Sinead yelled. "No, nothing was a joke between us! I swear, everything was real! I didn't fake anything to you, Hamilton!"

"But your time with the Cahills was fake, wasn't it? Your time for your brothers, your time with Amy? How can my time with you not be fake with that?" Hamilton said.

"I…" Sinead could only reply. He was right somehow. She spent the lot of her time with the Cahills extracting information from them and forwarding them to the Vespers.

"Vespers are ruthless, they're cold and they only have a heart for them to live and not to feel," Hamilton said, more to himself than Sinead. "I couldn't believe I fell for you." At those words, Sinead couldn't hold in the tears anymore. She felt offended and heartbroken at the same time.

"Not all Vespers are harmless, Hamilton," Sinead managed to croak out. She thought that if Vesper One saw her in this state, he'd definitely kill her on the spot. She didn't care. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry will never cut it," Hamilton said. As hard as it was to turn and walk away, that's what he did. He entered his car and drove back to where Jonah was. After all, he still had a mission to finish.

He didn't even bother glancing at the rearview mirror to see his former lover one last time.
