Okay yeah...NO idea where this came from. Not even sure I got Star's voice correct, but I kind of like it anyway...I like the acceptance at the end of relationships, when no one is really to blame...people just grow apart and I think I did okay with that theme here.
Hope you Enjoy, please Read and Review. :)

"It is time for us to say the farewells." Her voice was soft, but it held a steel undertone of finality.
"Farewell to whom?" Nightwing wrenched his mind from his latest case and met Starfire's eyes over the table.
"To us, as we are." Star replied her green eyes moist with unshed tears, her voice trembling with emotion. "I can no longer sustain a relationship as more than friends, as the girl-friend to you."
"But why?" Clearly Baffled he reached to take her hands across the table, even more confused when she moved out of his grasp.
"Your heart is no longer mine, I do not know if it ever really was." She said this sadly, with no malice.
"How can you say that? Star, I love you." His reply was said more as a defense against change than any real challenge against her statements.
"Yes you do," She agreed with a tremulous smile and a small nod. "You love me as a friend and a team mate."
"You're being ridiculous." He protested the coldness that she implied.
"When was the last time you held me close?" She asked simply.
Nightwing shook his head, startled at her question. "This is about cuddling? Have you been reading those magazines again?"
"Richard," She sighed and stood, gliding to the window that overlooked the city they protected. "I do not hear the heat in any of your objections."
"I simply don't understand what is going on."
"That is perhaps our problem," She met his gaze in the darkened glass, tears breaking over and streaming down her face. "We have grown apart, we remain friends, but we are no longer anything more."
"You're breaking up with me?" Incredulously he allowed the full impact of her comments to hit him and he was surprised when he felt nothing more than a regretful relief.
"Yes," She nodded. "I am doing the breaking up." She turned to smile at him as he moved from his seat and took her hands in his, this time she didn't pull away.
"I am sorry Star." And he really was, sorry he had broken the heart of this gentle warrior; that he had caused tears that continued to spill unabated from her jeweled eyes.
"I know this my friend."
"One day you'll find some one better, some one worthy of your heart." He drew her into a hug and wondered when he had stopped feeling the rush of desire that had been so prevalent in the beginning of their relationship; unbearably sad that he felt nothing as he held her in his arms and realized he hadn't for a very long time.
"Perhaps this will happen one day," She smiled lightly at him, "Perhaps one day you will learn how to give all of yourself to the one who will love you." She moved from his embrace and floated out of the room, a sense of sad peace and completion settling around her.
