She knew that Cloud would be worried about her since she had switched off her PHS, preventing him from contacting her. She just needed a moment alone to think to herself about the danger that the Planet faced. She wasn't stupid and she realised that in order for everyone to have a happy-ever-after, there would half to be sacrifices. It was not like it was in fairy tales where the evil was defeated easily and everything went back to normal, in real life, people died trying and often failing, to make the world a better place. She also knew that she was the last Cetra and the Planet's last hope. Ahead of them lay the Temple of the Ancients where they would receive the Black Materia now that they had the keystone. She stopped at the coast, taking off her boots before stepping into the cool, refreshing water and staring at the island ahead of them.

Her eyes glanced to the heavens, amazed by how blue it was and she smiled a little when she saw a lone cloud travelling across the sky. It reminded her of the leader of Avalanche, who always seemed full of troubled thoughts and memories.

She sighed softly, deciding she better switch on her Phs before any of her friends had heart attacks. She checked the voicemail messages and was amazed to see a missed call from Yuffie, two from Tifa and a staggering fifteen from Cloud, who from what it looked like, was calling her every five minutes. As if on cue, the mini phone vibrated in her hand and the name 'Cloud' came up on the display. She smiled and answered calmly.

"Hey,"

"Aeris?" he sounded relieved and angry at the same time. "Where are you? Are you alright?"

"Slow down Cloud!" she answered with a laugh as she stepped out of the water and slipped her feet back into her boots. "I'm fine; I just needed a little time to think,"

"About what? No, it doesn't matter; we're coming to get you!"

"Cloud, I'm fine. I can get back to you guys no problem."

He was silent for a moment until he gave a long, exasperated sigh and muttered something she couldn't quite hear but she could guess it was something to do with the infamous "it's too dangerous to walk around on your own" line that he lectured on her. She rolled her eyes.

"I thought that date last night would have calmed you down not make you more uptight," she joked and she could tell by the way he cleared his throat that he was a little embarrassed and probably blushing. She could just imagine his cheeks turning a soft shade of pink. It was an unbelievably cute look of his and definitely contributed to her falling for him.

"Just hurry back to the group okay?" he said pleadingly and she smiled a little by his concern.

"Will do Mr Bodyguard," she teased before she hung up on him. She glanced at the sky again, surprised to see another cloud in the distance floating towards the one she had seen before. She smiled a little and watched the newer cloud drift faster, trying to catch up.

"A bit like Cloud and me," she laughed as she walked back the way she had came, musing on how she would be the cloud in the distance and the blonde ex-soldier would be trying to catch up with her. She knew Cloud would follow her to the ends of the Planet if he had too.

But that thought also scared her for she knew what he would see if he did go there. She pulled a face and pushed the thoughts of the future to the back of her mind. These last few days were for enjoying the company of her Cloud, not for dwelling on times to come.
