He wasn't in love with her. He didn't even like her. She was annoying and bratty. He was a loner and better off without anyone in his life...especially such a bothersome pink hedgehog. So why whenever he saw her he felt irritating tingling feeling in his stomach (he refused to say it was butterflies) But somewhere deep inside, much deeper than saving the human kind from destruction he felt a sort of … happy when he saw her, though he never showed it if he can help it.
"Hey, Shadow!" cried out a familiar voice he knew so well by now.
He ignored it, no matter if he somehow convinced himself that he liked Amy more than jus
t friends, she already had been able to catch the hedgehog of her dreams. He was not about to ruin it for her.
"Don't ignore me... I wanna talk to you about something" she asked in a rather timid voice, that surprised Shadow.
He kept his cool and asked in a rather cold voice much colder than he had meant it, "What do you want?."
She crossed her arms, looking quite offended and Shadow couldn't help but smirk at how cute she looking pouting her lips.
"What are you smirking at?" snapped the pink hedgehog.
"That you thought I cared" he said, his voice filled with smugness.
She huffed, clearly annoyed at the irritating turn of events. Narrowing her brightly green eyes at him. She seem to wonder whether she would want to hurt him with her huge Pika Pika Hammer...or at least that's what Shadow guessed what she was doing as she kept putting her arms behind her and pulling them out again. Finally after a awkward silence that only Amy seem to feel, (Shadow lay back down on the green grass) she spoke up again, this time in her more confident voice.
"Shadow... I'm... getting married and I just wanted to know whether you wanted to say anything to me before I do?."
Shadow felt his heart drop, but manage to get a replied out, "What do you want me to say?."
"Well, I-I always thought you had feelings for me. I know I did. I remember-" Amy said her voice now cracking up. "- how I used to have a big crush on you. Silly huh?"
Shadow looked up and saw her eyes were tearing up now, he didn't know what to say, but more than anything he wanted to comfort her, to hold her, and make her feel all better. He knew he couldn't do it though, and he started to feel sick, 'how can he just stand there and do nothing about it?' he thought, aghast at the situation.
"Maybe I just fooled myself into thinking you liked me" Amy said bitterly.
"Amy..."
She shocked her head, tears now falling down her pink skirt.
"I gotta go Shadow...maybe I'll see you at the wedding?" and with that she stood up and with a final glance at him, she walked still tear stricken.
"Damn it," was all Shadow could say as he lay down on the grass, and shutting his eyes shut, so no tear could escape him.
