Something In Your Smile.

He could watch it all day. It just seemed so effortless, like someone stretching lazily on a sunny beach. The smile of someone who had never had to try to fit in. Something he had never been able to quite manage. And he did get to watch it all day, because, unless he was stressing about whichever nasty had arrived to plague them, Tommy never seemed to stop smiling. At members of the football team passing in the hallway, turning on the charm for whichever teacher's homework he hadn't got round to doing and of course for Stacey. Even though lately of course it was tinged with worry over wolfing out. And now even he, Merton Dingle, got the full force of it in the mornings when they met up at his locker. If someone had told him that a year ago he would definately have laughed in their face. But that smile itself was living proof, here was Tommy Dawkins, perfectly at ease and it seemed, happy to call him his best buddy.
It never appeared often enough for his liking. Maybe that was a main part of the whole teen goth thing but it still managed to sneak it's way out. An uncertain ending to one of his usually awful jokes about whatever had turned up that week or just when he was uncertain about anything really. Yeah, that's what it was, uncertainty, an ever present longing to belong. That was possibly the one good thing about the whole werewolf deal, it had brought his friendship to Merton. Perhaps a little grudgingly at first but now you could definately call them friends, good friends. And he could always tell when something was wrong, which TnT were usually behind because that smile was missing. And boy, did he miss it when it wasn't there.
