I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
Get your fill to eat, but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
Lily Potter smiled down at the baby in her arms. He was small and bright-eyed, staring at the swirl of stars his mother danced in front of his face with her wand. The baby's tiny hand reached out to touch one, and was gently pulled back. The stars spread out and dissolved into the air as Lily kissed her son on the nose and looked into his eyes.
"Do you know how lucky you are, Harry?" she whispered. "To have never known danger or loss…just love and dancing stars…"
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Harry gurgled and struggled, and Lily placed him on the ground beside her chair. He hung onto her knee to steady himself, then slowly toddled across the room. He turned back to make sure Lily was watching, and with a huge baby grin, he spun in a circle. He met her eyes, still grinning, and Lily clapped at the trick. He was learning something new every day.
Then, with a loud thump, he fell on his backside. He looked so surprised and indignant that Lily couldn't help but laugh. Harry stared at her curiously, then laughed his gurgly hiccup laugh right along with her.
Lily quieted, and sadness flickered in her eyes. She walked to Harry, and lifted him high in the air, then cuddled him against her shoulder. "Keep laughing, baby." she murmured. "These are dangerous times, and it can't be this simple forever. You'll need to laugh."
I hope you dance
Picking up her wand, Lily spoke under her breath, and the chords of an old lullaby filled the room. Keeping Harry pressed against her shoulder, she rocked back and forth, dancing him to sleep. A wave of her hand, and the tiny stars filled the room once more, twirling around her and her baby like protective angels.
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances, but they're worth taking
Loving might be a mistake, but its worth making
When the lullaby had run its course, Lily lay Harry in his crib. She stood over him a moment, watching the stars settle around his cherub face, a thousand glittering nightlights all for him. She brushed one off his nose and gazed down, praying that he would always look so innocent when he was asleep.
Don't let some helping heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out, reconsider
Give the Heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
The silence was broken by James' scream. "Lily! Run! Take Harry and run!"
Lily leaned down and kissed Harry's forehead, petting his dark hair. "Make us proud, baby," she whispered as she turned.
Less than thirty seconds later, there was a flash of green light.
I hope you dance
