Reschedule

The day had been long and tiring, worsened by the due transformation. Remus Lupin slumped in his chair. It was pushed out from the table, as he had given up on marking the first years' essays. He was most definitely not in the mood. His eyes drooped and his hair looked like it had suffered a dementor attack. The awaiting pile of papers on the desk caused Remus to close his eyes and sigh deeply. The outside sky was black, for it was 11:30pm. He had made the decision to drag himself to bed, but just as he lifted himself from the chair, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in..." Remus started, cautiously. "Oh, Severus, hello." Snape stood in the doorway, hidden behind a veil of dark hair. His black cape hung loosely down to the stone floor. Although he had taken precautions to not show it, Snape was nervous, and Lupin could tell. "Are you going to come in then?" Slowly, he entered the room, closing the door behind him.

"Remus, how are you?"

"I... I am well, thank you. And yourself?"

"I am also well, thank you." Snape stood awkwardly, barely inside the room. His eyes were cast to the floor.

"Severus, you look troubled. Is something troubling you?"

Snape knew what he wanted to say. However, the idea of saying it out loud – to Remus – seemed suddenly ridiculous.

"Severus?"

"I was wondering, Remus, if you would like to come to The Hog's Head with me for a Butterbeer this Thursday."

Immediately after he had finished, Snape regretted speaking. Why would Remus want to be in the same room as him, let alone have a drink and conversation? And why does he want to have a drink and conversation with Lupin, anyway? He just wanted Lupin to decline so he could get back to his room, sleep, and forget about the situation.

"Severus," Remus stammered. "Thursday is the night of the full moon. I'm afraid I'll be a little... Occupied." They both paused, due to embarrassment and nerves. "You don't drink, anyway."

"Neither do you", Snape forced. He turned to leave, prompted by the easy rejection. He pushed down the handle and the door was about to open.

"However... I'm free on Friday. I'll be weak after the previous night, so perhaps we could meet in your room."

Snape looked up at the man stood opposite.

"I would like that."

It had gone better than he had expected.
