Chapter 1 – The Compartment of Harry Potter
The shouting and all the racket coming from the farther compartments seemed to go unnoticed by everyone on the train; everyone except Hermione Granger. Grabbing Neville's wrist, she tugged her way through the crowd of wandering Hogwarts students. There were girls laughing, girls crying, and boys poking fun all throughout the hallways, but not one person seemed to care about what might actually be going on in the back of the train. "Neville, keep up!" she spat as the whimpering boy she had met just an hour before attempted to keep up with her angry speed-walking. In her opinion, he needed to stop crying; they hadn't found his toad yet, and they didn't seem likely to find it unless another student walked right up to them holding it.
She stopped abruptly when she reached the door where the yelling and the crying were coming from. Neville walked into her and fell right onto his behind, but she simply rolled her eyes and reached for the handle of the compartment of Harry Potter. Before she could even touch it, however, it swung open and three very large people came running out.
Well, two of them were very large. She had barely noticed the small boy, but the moment she did, she couldn't keep her eyes off of him. His silver hair was slicked back very delicately, as if he were going to a concert or a fancy dinner, and his robes were not only brand new, but brand-name as well. His skin was deeply pale, and she could easily have believed that he had never seen sun in his life. Last of all, his eyes, with a glance at her as he jogged past her, were penetratingly gray and surprisingly intimidating; they made him seem even more frightening than the boys running beside him who could probably crush Neville with their fingers. She kept watching him until he had run too far for her to see any longer. Then she turned to Neville.
"Well, that was annoying," She grasped his sweaty hand and helped him up. "Shall we?"
