Disclaimer: I don't own anything. This is all purely my imagination (sadly xD)
Note: I wrote this story for my Honig after she sent me this link here 25 [dot] media [dot] tumblr [dot] com/tumblr_lpw2l6aFG51qkex14o1_500 [dot] jpg this morning. That's what the story's based on, in case you want to know.
She noticed her display flashing up again. It was much more the change of light that she recognized through her close eyelids than it was the subtle sound of her phone's vibrating alert. It wasn't the first time that she got woken up by it this morning. She wanted to ignore it but noticed him shifting around in bed as the noise of her phone continued. Lazily, she reached out to the nightstand, searching for her phone, eyes still closed. When she couldn't find it she forced herself to open one of her eyes to make out its location through.
"Shit!" She hissed as her phone fell off the small table and hit the floor with a loud 'clonk'. Grumbling from the other side of the bed made her realize once again that she wasn't alone. And she this was certainly not her bed.
"Don't get up yet. Stay in bed," she heard him mumble, obviously still drowsy. Kate felt his arm wrap around her waist as he pulled her back towards him. However, she still managed to grab her phone and check her messages.
'Congrats, girl. It was about time!'
'Why didn't you tell me?'
'So, Writerboy has finally won you over'
'Don't know what took you so long'
Lanie. Obviously. But… how? How did she know where Kate was? How did she know what had happened after she left the precinct with Castle. How did she know that Kate had spent the evening at Castle's loft, talking. How did she know the two of them had spent the night at the loft, in his bed.
Kate shook her head, just slightly.
"Who was it?" he mumbled against her ear.
"Lanie," Kate answered absentmindedly.
"Hm, what'd'she want?" Castle asked again, not yet able to speak clearly. "Someone dead?"
"No, she was just… congratulating me," she explained, deliberately keeping her explanation short. When he didn't reply, Kate turned around in his arms, so she could look at him. Just when she thought he'd fallen asleep again, she noticed the knowing smile on his face. Realization hit her.
"Castle," she began, her voice showing both anger and amusement. Castle. He knew. He thought it was funny. Of course. They were her colleagues, not his. They've known all along, yet Kate had kept ignoring it. She had not been ready to talk about it with any of them, not even with Lanie.
"Shhh, Kate. Go back t'sleep. S'the middle of the night," he interrupted her, his smile not leaving his face. Eventually she fell asleep again.
A few hours had passed since they'd fallen asleep again. It was the light of her phone that woke her up again. This time there was no movement from the other side of the bed. The warmth was gone as well, so she wasn't surprised to see the bed empty as she turned around. She picked up her phone from the nightstand.
'1 new text message'
She opened the message and began to read.
'Congratulations, Kate. You are extraordinary. Oh, and yes, it was a good decision to sleep with me. Rick.'
She let herself fall back into the pillows, unable to hide the enormous smile on her face. He was right. It was a good decision, and she did not regret it.
End.
