PIECES
Jack is dead. Daniel is there to pick up the pieces.

Daniel walked solemnly to Sam Carters lab. He found her tapping the table, trying to hide her tears.

"Ah Sam, the ceremony is in an hour."

"Yeah, I know." She breathed. "I can't believe he's actually gone." She sobbed.

"Aw, Sam. C'mon don't cry." But Daniel was on the verge of tears himself. "He's fine, Sam."

Sam slammed her fist on the table. "Damnit Daniel! He isn't coming back this time." She was sobbing uncontrollably and fell to the floor. She didn't bother wiping her face. The skirt of her dress blues rose to about mid-thigh. She kicked off her shoe's and huddled in a dark corner. Her blue eyes were swimming in tears.

Daniels heart broke in half. The women lying in her lab looked more like a child. "Sam," he said quietly.

"Daniel, I'm in pieces. When he died, he took me with him." She gasped. "I s'pose that means I'm court marshaled."

"No, Sam. I'm not military. I won't say anything." He was still standing by the door. She was still on the ground crying her heart out. "Sam, I'll put you together." She looked up at him. He walked closer and crouched down on the floor beside her and took her in his arms. "I'm gonna put you together."

She sobbed into his shoulder and gripped him tightly. Her nails dug into him but he could suck it up for Sam. "Oh, I miss him." She said.

He rocked her gently back and forth. "I'm broken, Daniel." Her breath tickled his hair.

"I know. But I'm going to fix you." He stated simply.

Sam broke away from his embrace, her tears still falling off her chin. "You're starting to look like him you know." She started. He looked confused.

"You're far from the scrawny boy we picked up from Abydos." She wiped the tears away from her face, and touched his arms which were strong now. "You're a bit more tanned, like he was," she touched his face now with a gentle hand. "You are even starting to sound sarcastic sometimes and occasionally I forget you're not military. You spent so much time with him that you're idea's in fighting the Ori were beginning to sound like they were coming from a Tactics Specialist."

"And my hair is graying." He joked. She tried to laugh but it sounded more like a scoff.

"You're eyes though, they're different." She reached up to his face and grabbed his glasses. She easily slid them off his face and he closed his eyes. "There, now I could almost believe you are him." She smiled half-heartedly.

She lightly touched his eyelids and moved her thumb across them. "I believe you are him." She said more seriously.

Sam moved in closer to him and caught his lips with her own. The kiss was for comfort and relief. Then unexpectedly she broke it off. Daniel looked at her confused again.

"You okay?" He asked, opening his eyes.

"No, but I will be." She smiled again, and then they kissed.
