He Heard The News

It broke his heart when he heard the news. While the rest of the Wizarding World celebrated the downfall of the Dark Lord, he saw in his living room and stared at her picture.

She had been so bright, and so... Alive. He adored her, both as a student, and then after, as a friend. She was kind and thoughtful, happy and beautiful, she was everything a young woman should be and more.

Without her in it, the world lost a shining beacon of light. She was an angel, taken to heaven where she belonged. Those on earth never deserved such an amazing person as she.

He knew that. It didn't help the pain he felt when he heard the news.

People would expect him to be celebrating. They would expect him to be partaking in a nice mug of mead, and perhaps, as it was such a special occasion, they would expect him to break open his box of crystallised pineapple.

This time, he wouldn't meet those expectation.

Instead, he sat holding the picture of Lily Evans in his hands and for the first time in years, Horace Slughorn cried.
