Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.
A little girl gasps and opens her eyes. She's scared, but doesn't know why; she's a bit sore, but doesn't know the reason for that either; she feels guilty, but that feeling fades so fast she questions if it was ever there.
The girl sits up and looks around, and her face breaks into a smile. (She doesn't know that this is the first time she has really, truly smiled in nearly a quarter century.) She recognizes where she is. There is a small lake a few yards to her left, and a big maple tree with a rope swing behind her. Looming in the background is a grand old mansion, made of black stone and covered with ivy and outlined against a vivid blue sky, but this doesn't interest her. Outdoors is much better than in.
The girl looks over and suddenly realizes why she is scared: A second little girl is sprawled on the grass, thick copper ringlets obscuring her face. She looks—but no, she mustn't think that. The first girl scrambles over to her, shaking her. "Andi? Andi, wake up!"
Andi's eyes fly open and she sits up, looking wildly around. "Bella?" When she sees Bella, she relaxes with a sigh of relief. "Oh, Bella, I had a bad dream. You…you were mad at me, and you chased me…"
"Why was I mad at you? Did you push me into the lake?" The girl named Bella sounds a bit confused as to why she would ever get angry with Andi. She shakes her hair out of her face—hair like Andi's, dense and curly, but hers is black instead of auburn.
"I don't know." Andi bites her lip, looking puzzled, and then shrugs. "Guess it doesn't matter." She gets to her feet and looks around. "Where's Cissy?"
"Cissy won't be here for a long time," Bella says a bit sadly. "An old man told me that. He said Cissy has people to look after."
"Imagine Cissy taking care of someone." Both girls giggle, and then Bellatrix leaps to her feet too. "Come on, last one to climb the tree is a—a…." She trails off, frowning.
"What?" asks Andi, who was all set to run but now is looking quizzically at her sister.
"I almost said….THAT word," she whispers. "The ugly M one."
"Oh. Well, let's think of something better, then," Andi says kindly. "How about…unicorn turd?"
"Last one to climb the tree is a unicorn turd!" Together the two sprint off, panting and laughing and stumbling up the bank. They heave themselves onto a low branch at the same time and sit there, content, feet dangling toward the ground.
"Bella?" Andi leans her head on Bella's shoulder.
"Yeah?" Bella snakes her arm around her sister's shoulders.
"I missed you. I don't know where you went or why, but I just….I have this feeling that you were gone and I missed you." She sounds baffled.
"…I feel that way too," Bella says after a pause, thinking. "And wherever I was, I hope it was good, 'cuz I missed you, Andi." She draws Andi closer. "I missed you lots."
"But we're together now."
"Yeah. Forever."
