And Then There Was No Going Back

'I haven't seen a sunset this beautiful since I was child.' thought L. He had taken a break from the Kira case at the request of Watari. As he stared out the window in his room, he was amazed by the beautiful sunset.

The evening hangs beneath the moon
A silver thread on darkened dune.

He sighed heavily and turned away from the sight. 'This case is going nowhere. I was so sure Raito-kun was Kira…'
The bright star that was once L was slowly fading away.
'I've never been wrong'

With closing eyes and resting head
I know that sleep is coming soon.

He lay down on his bed remembering what Watari had said.

"Ryuuzaki, please continue tomorrow, you are exhausted"

Watari had been like a father to him, and even though being around him made L feel protected, he still felt uneasy.
Every detail concerning Kira's case flashed through his mind. 'What could I have possibly missed?'

Upon my pillow safe in bed
A thousand pictures fill my head.

L's appearance had gotten bad. He had become extremely pallid and the bags under his eyes became darker. He was depressed, but still a part of him knew he was right.
Regaining some of his strength back, he stood from his bed and walked to the main room.
'This isn't over yet'

I cannot sleep my mind's aflight
And yet my limbs seem made of lead.

His eyes were locked on the screen, his head spinning with thoughts. 'I'm not wrong! How can I prove it? There must be something…'
To anyone it might seem as if he was simply sitting calmly, facing the screen of his computer. Inside, however, his thoughts spun with the ferocity and power of a raging tornado.

If there are noises in the night
A frightening shadow, flickering light.

He was going insane. Thoughts, images, faces, memories. The dam in his mind was bursting. 'I can't do this! I can't win! I can't! I just want peace…'
Suddenly, the lights went out and the screens froze to display a grim message.

ALL DATA DELETION

'Watari…' he thought. "All data deletion? What's going on" he heard someone say. "I instructed Watari to delete all the data if something unexpected should happen to him" he responded grimly.
Confusion filled the room, but Ryuuzaki suddenly understood what was going on.
"Everyone, the shiniga—"
L's sentence was cut off, for he felt a sudden sharp pain in his chest. He dropped the spoon he was holding, and his body slowly fell out of the chair. 'This is it. You win Kira'

As I surrender onto sleep
Where clouds of dream give second sight.

The chill of the cold floor rapidly spread through him as he touched it. His vision blurred, and an obscure shadow fell upon him.

What dreams may come both dark and deep

'I'm free. I am being liberated'
He felt himself slipping out as Yagami Raito's hands shook him violently.

Of flying wings and soaring leap.

Slipping further and further, his doubts were confirmed. Raito smirked and his eyes roared with maniacal laughter.
'You are Kira, and I am free'

As I surrender onto sleep

He fell deeper

As I surrender onto sleep

Deeper.

Sleep


Deeper.


Sleep


Deeper.


Sleep.

And then… there was no going back.
