The halls of Storybrooke High were eerily quiet. But, that Saturday morning was unlike any other. Year 13 students were slowly arriving at the school for a big announcement. Cars arrived in the parking lot whilst sleepy or hungover students stumbled through the main entrance. One girl arrived awake and sober. Regina Mills, the evil queen of high school. Head of the Science club and winner of the mathematics championships. All the girls loved her and all the guys hated her.
In the main hall, the head teacher, Principal King, ushered students into seats and took his place at the front of the hall. Principal King was a stern man and one not to be crossed with, though many had tried.
"Right then." He shouted, instantly silencing the students. "Many of you are probably wondering why you are here on a Saturday morning. The local orphanage and this school have paired together on an assignment all of you will take part in. Two students will be paired together and raise a child for one month. You will also be coping with paying for bills and food."
Regina sat up interested, she would normally prefer to work solo on an assignment but this would certainly help her prepare for her future.
"Your partners are automatically chosen and cannot be switched." Principal King warned, causing a round of groans from the year. No couples or best friends were partnered together for anything. "Mr Hopper will now read out the partners." The life studies teacher, Mr. Archibald Hopper, walked up on stage and took Principal Blanchard's place and started reading out a list.
"Once I read out yours and your partner's name please go join them. John Little and Marian Hood; Killian Jones and Emma Swan; Robert Gold and Belle French; Zelena Green and Hades Fier; Robin Locksley and Regina Mills…"
"What?!" yelled two voices from opposite sides of the hall. Robin Locksley and Regina Mills had both stood up and yelled at Mr Hopper. Robin was head of the football team and admired by everyone…apart from Regina.
"You two are paired up so please do not disrupt again and sit down." Principal King called through his teeth. They reluctantly sat down, shooting daggers in each other's direction. Archie continued reading.
"Will Scarlet and Ruby Lucas; Mary-Margaret Blanchard and David Nolan; Abigail Charm and Frederick Gold; Ashley Slipper and Sean Prince and last but not least… Fiona Black and Peter Fly. You will meet your child on Monday at 8:15am. You are free to leave."
The whole year cheered and ran off to find their partner, happy with who they were paired with. Except for Regina and Robin, she had other plans. She quietly slipped away from the hall. After what Robin did to her, she could not spend a month with him. They would end up killing each other.
