Ben still wants to atone for the sins he committed while alive, even though he tried his hardest after joining Hugo. After everyone disappears inside the church, he returns to Danielle and Alex's sides. He has a lot to make up for.
A few years pass. Ben still isn't ready to move on, and neither are Danielle and Alex. They remember now too, and they're staying put. They're a family now.
"I love you," Danielle whispers to him one night.
"I love you, too," Ben whispers back, smiling at her.
He doesn't mind atonement when he has Danielle and Alex.
