Norway face planted, head on the desk and sighed, breathing out, studying the pattern of wood on the desk. It seemed almost like someone had lazily painted in cherry wood a strange image that drew the eye towards it.
Where had the tree been? The question floated around his mind as though it was the only thought there, and he imagined a forest filled with dark shadows and perhaps wolves that loped past the trees. He didn't actually want to find out, more enjoying the process of thinking up possibilities than the prospect of the answer. Perhaps an owl had lived in it, or a nest of fairies had been its inhabitants.
He could hear his own heartbeat, like a hunting drum, rather fitting for the fantastical forest he had dreamed up. Maybe snow had fallen heavily there, covering the leaves of this tree and its neighbours. Maybe sunshine had cast strange shadows on the ground covering its roots. Had butterflies flown past the tree, or maybe settled on its leaves? He traced an idle circle on the wood while he thought.
Maybe a hawk had flown past at one point, concentrated on its prey. Silent. Swift. And gone on to fly above the clouds…
Denmark prodded his cheek. "Hey. Nor. Norway. Norge. Hey. Hello." He watched as Norway slowly raised his head, a glimmer of disappointment in his eyes. "I was thinking, idiot."
Denmark's eyes glittered. If it was his best friend Norway, it was bound to be something amazing! Maybe even a submarine design! Maybe it was really deep! He skipped around to the other side of Norway and widened his eyes. "What about?"
Norway fell silent for a short time, reflecting on his thoughts, as Denmark waited in anticipation. He was frankly surprised he hadn't been strangled with his tie by now, but maybe Nor was still too dazed from his fantastic idea!
"This desk."
Denmark stopped short. What? The desk?
So it was just the desk…
He felt Nor tug on his tie and strangle him with it.
"It's not just a desk, you idiot. The only thing your mind can comprehend is beer, isn't it?" He let go and Denmark fell onto the chair as Norway walked off.
And what was that about…?
I just wanted to write about how much Norway thinks about things compared to Denmark…
They actually really get on well… In a weird way…
I don't even want to know what I've written here…
