Disappointment, or What a corsage is

Gabriella couldn't believe it. A thousand miles, indeed, couldn't keep them apart: a few hours away from prom and there was her Troy on a tree, so hot in that suit, so handsome and ever so romantic. She would either swoon or cruelly wake up.

"My prom is wherever you are."

She was positively swooning. Those eyes, those blue-blue eyes…

He reached for something in his breast pocket, she froze. Just that day she had heard some of her new classmates chatting about one of them having been proposed to on prom night. Troy would get a small heart-shaped box with a golden ring in it, her eyes would water and she'd scream "Yes!" so loudly that even their friends back in Albuquerque would hear.

"My last dance at East High is going to be with you."

Her smile didn't waver, her heart fell and her tears and scream never came. A corsage, which he neatly tied on her wrist. A dance, then. My heart is wherever you are – someone like you – my one in a million – feeling the way we do – always together – getting better…

"Can I have this dance?"

"This, the next, the last; all yours."
