"I just wonder what exactly they are doing to her? If she's dreaming, what about?" Colonel John Sheppard once again found himself in a situation where there was nothing he could do for a friend. Nothing but sit and wait while Carson and Rodney tried to figure something out.
"Do you think perhaps they are making her experience the same thing they did on Asuras?" Teyla wondered. They had been discussing Elizabeth and the current problem at Atlantis.
"It's a good possibility. Break her down by playing on her fears." It truly was a good suggestion. He could always count on Teyla to come up with logical solutions and suggestions. "It's just…" he didn't really know what he was going to say, it was all so frustrating.
"We all feel the same." She knew how he felt, she had felt the same many times. "It's always most difficult when family is at risk." He looked up at her at that, their discussion on the Daedalus when going to help Ronon instantly playing in his mind.
"Yeah. I just wish…"
"-that you could do something?"
"I hate just standing around, watching her fade away, and doing nothing." He once again drifted to stare at the floor. After a moment he felt her gently touch his arm, causing him to focus on her again. In the back of his mind he registered the warmth that seemed to flow into him from where her hand touched him.
After looking John in the eyes for what seemed like much longer than it actually was she spoke. "But you are doing something. Being here is the best thing any of us can do for her now. As Dr. Beckett said, if we keep talking to her she can hear us and that I think is a far greater thing to do than you give credit for." She paused and took a deep breath before continuing, still holding on to him. "If it were I, knowing that you where beside me would give me great strength," on an after thought she added "and I'm sure Elizabeth feels the same." And with that she let go of him and took a step backwards. Instantly missing her warmth John felt compelled to say something. He wanted to keep that feeling of belonging he got every time they touched. Wanted to say the things left unspoken, but unable to do so. But that wouldn't stop him from trying.
"Teyla, I-" he started but never got to finish as Rodney and Beckett came back with what could be a solution.
Another missed opportunity, but there would be others. They'd save Elizabeth and then he would find a way to keep that feeling. To say all the things he'd meant to say for so long. There would be time.
The end.
