Becoming the Man She Loves
Tales of the Ninja and the Princess
Relic's Notes
This is a series of oneshots about our favourite ninja and princess because there just isn't enogh fanfiction out there about Kurogane/Tomoyo! I've been examining the manga and Kurogane's relationship with Tomoyo so many times that I have decided to attempt to write what their relationship would have been before Tomyo sent him away, during his exile, and when Kurogane returns to Nihon with Fay. These oneshots will have varying ratings and genres, but will all have an underlying theme of 'becoming the man she loves' hence the title. (Duh.) I love Kurogane's evolution from cold killer to someone who cares, and I really want to explore that.
This first one is a prolouge to everything, just to get things started. It's not great, but I wanted to get something down before I started writing something epic/fluffy/angst-ridden/crazy/sneaky ninja/sly princess/ ... ish. Just to get the feel, you know?
I am open to suggestions for a oneshot, and I will try to fulfill them as best as I can. I can't garuntee that I'll write them all, but I will promise you this- if you suggest something, your idea will be credited and it will appear in some shape or form in a oneshot!
So, on to the obligatory description posting:
Title: Bodyguard
Rating: K+
Summary: They can't help but be drawn to each other.
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: Everything belongs to CLAMP. If I owned anything, Fay wouldn't have an eyepatch and Kurogane's arm wouldn't be made of metal.
Enjoy!
Bodyguard
He only ever meant to be her bodyguard. The effect Tomoyo had on Kurogane drew him closer to her year by year, and Tomoyo crept her way into his heart until he could not longer disbelieve that this feeling for her went much, much farther than the fierce desire to protect her. Dangerous, so dangerous for a man like him in his profession; she was his weakness and his desire, his black widow and his damsel. He wanted nothing more than to take Tomoyo away from the people who wanted to kill her, the people who hated her for trying to save their pathetic country.
Despite all of this, Kurogane remained a loyal servant, because that's all he could ever be. He was her shadow, silently standing at her side, ready to serve her at the smallest motion of her hand, the tiniest tilt of her head. Movement was Kurogane's language, and sometimes he knew what she felt, what she wanted before Tomoyo voiced it to him. Kurogane depended on this silent language, because her actions gave the underlying truth than what she spoke.
He could always tell when she disliked a nobleman she flirted with, upset at a friend when she pretended all was well, terrified in front of her enemies when she appeared cool and collected. She had the uncanny ability to hide her true feelings from the people around her. All except Kurogane. He knew, oh yes he knew. He wondered how long Tomoyo could last, how long it would take until her façade would crumble. Kurogane only hoped that he could catch Tomoyo before she fell.
Now, after years of separation, in some world Kurogane can't call home, he understands the reasons why Tomoyo played her eternal masquerade.
It was because Kurogane had ensnared her, drawn her close to him over the years until she could not deny the emotion she felt delved much deeper than the fierce desire to give him the reason to live.
