This is just a bit of fun I got stuck in my head when I couldn't sleep. Enjoy! Please feel free to review, I love reviews.
I guess I should tell you all that I don't own CSI or anyone in it, someone else does.
Facing the Music.
Nick sat patiently in the hard chair, cradling his left hand to himself. The chair on one side was occupied by Warrick, who was staring into space and the one on the other side was occupied by Sara who was busily filling out the pile of forms deemed necessary for anyone to be seen by a doctor.
"This is just ridiculous!" she growled. "Why the hell do they need to know your mothers maiden name? I mean for God's sake it's you that needs the doctor not her."
"Chill out Sara" Nick told her. "It doesn't matter."
Sara gave him look that could have frozen a river. How could he be so calm when they had already been here over an hour and God knows how long it would be before he would be seen?
Nick knew what she was thinking and he settled further back onto the hard chair and sighed.
"It's ok Sara; it doesn't hurt if I don't move it. I can wait. I'm sure there are others in worse condition than me that need to be seen first." He told her, trying to be reassuring.
Sara gave him a grim smile. Here he was in pain and trying to reassure her.
"Sorry Nicky" she hung her head. "I just hate hospitals."
"Don't we all."
Three heads shot up at the voice of their supervisor who stood in front of them his eyebrows raised in question.
"Someone want to tell me why I got a call from Brass telling me that one of my CSI's was injured and the other two had accompanied him to the hospital, leaving no-one to finish processing the scene?"
He didn't seem to be angry, though sometimes it was hard to tell with Gil Grissom.
"We were finished when Nick hurt his hand. Open and shut case." Warrick grimaced at what he had said and it was all Sara could do not to laugh.
Grissom gave the three of them a long look before asking a question he knew he was going to regret.
"Care to tell me why this is amusing to you two? I mean Nick's hand looks like it's broken, I don't see him laughing."
Sara and Warrick exchanged a glance before looking at Nick who just nodded. He just wanted this to be over.
"Well, see, the house hadn't really been burgled. Seems the son decided he needed something from home and didn't have his key so he got in through a window. Neighbours spotted him and called in a burglary" she paused and looked at Grissom.
He nodded for her to continue.
"Once Brass got the kid's statement, he went back to his friend's house and we started to clean up" Warrick took up the story. "Sara and I were in the living room putting our kits back together when we heard Nicky yell out."
By now, Nick had hung his head and Sara and Warrick were trying not to laugh.
Grissom's face was becoming stormy by now and Sara hastened to finish the story before he exploded.
"It's ok; there was no-one else there. Nicky boy here had discovered an old piano in the next room, and being a musical boy" she shot him a grin. "He just couldn't resist tinkling the ivories. Unbeknown to him though, the family cat had taken up residence in the piano and when Nick started to play it shot out of the piano and landed on the open lid which fell onto Nick's hand."
Both Sara and Warrick couldn't help it, they were both laughing now and when Nick looked at his supervisor who was struggling not to laugh too, he let out a groan and closed his eyes.
Luckily it was at that moment that he heard his name called and he hurriedly jumped up and followed the nurse, eager to get away from the humiliation.
The last thing he heard before he entered the cubicle was Grissom's snort of laughter as he could not hold back any longer.
Man it was going to be a long week.
