The brush is dipped into the pink – like her lips were, so full, always curved into a smile – and it is swept across the egg, leaving a vibrant pink stripe. He looks at it numbly, the egg is like him, he realizes as he splotches yellow dots onto the blue curved side. It was once packed with life, just waiting to explode.
And now it's dead, and he's painting a happy mask to hide the lack of life.
He sets the egg to dry and stares at the other patients of St. Mungo's, pondering the muggle holiday they're celebrating.
