Chapter 1

Semolina gazed out the window of the slightly-old Puffoon orphanage rocket, trying to see the planet she was being brought to. She saw a planet crackling with red-hot flames flickering in all directions. She shuddered and hoped that Gren wasn't this planet. As the rocket flew past the burning planet, Semolina gave an audible sigh of relief. Now, she saw another planet with huge trees and abundant vegetation and wildlife. The rocket flew lower and Semolina realized that this place of life was Gren. The rocket's engine the decided to make an extremely loud exploding noise causing the rocket to shake violently and Semolina to jump. A few minutes later the terrified pilot managed to set the rocket down on Gren without self-destructing and turning into a ball of fire. charged into the small area where Semolina was sitting and began to shriek at her for no real reason other than to frighten her. "Hurry up so I can get off this backwater planet and get you out of my orphanage for good!" Semolina rose to her feet and walked to the door with yelling unhelpful things. "Speed up, and go faster!" She roared at her. Semolina had no idea why decided to make an orphanage when she told the other orphans that she positively hated children hourly. "Pick up the pace!" she shouted. Semolina ran down the ramp outside the rocket as her anti-cheer squad slowly climbed down the ramp. Semolina saw a felin come from the vegetation and approach them. obviously didn't see them or was just trying to be as rude as possible because she immediately yelled "I'm tired of having to take you cat-tailed freaks here all the time!" had only had one felin besides Semolina but they were adopted and sent to Cassia and only said it to hurt Semolina's feelings. "I'm sorry to interrupt your angry rant about my race but are you from the orphanage?" the felin asked. began to turn a shade of red and started to stammer out something unintelligible. Semolina stifled a giggle and could see the other felin clearly now. His eyes were joyful and filled with light while his mouth slowly crept into a smile at 's reaction and Semolina's failed attempts at hiding her laughs. muttered a yes and nudged Semolina forward. He then abruptly turned and headed up the ramp. As Semolina watched the rocket fly away the felin put his hand on her shoulder. "Your orphanage must be small if you're the only one on the rocket" He said. "She dropped me off last is all." Semolina said. The felin raised his eye brows in surprise. Hee wasn't expecting her to be able to speak so clearly for one her age. "How old are you anyways?" he asked. "Um..." Semolina tried to think but she never really knew when she was born. Her earliest memories are from the orphanage. " I don't know" She answered. "Let's say you're six then." he said. " Come with me now." Semolina hurried along behind him. " May I ask your name?" he questioned. "Semolina" she answered He then said " It's only fair I tell you my name too then." "What is it?" She asked. "Durum." He answered.
