Back when a peg legged bat named Fidget was still alive on a bright and sunny afternoon, he and his best friend, Olivia Flaversham were out for a stroll as always. Later, on their walk, Olivia told Fidget a joke and to her amazement, he laughed so hard, he collapsed to the ground. Right then, Olivia's amazement turned to dust of worry. "You'll be alright, Fidget," she convinced Fidget, who lay weak and dying.

She left Fidget's limp body lying on the ground and rushed to Basil's, crying in desperation, "Basil! Dawson! Daddy! Toby!"

"My bairn, what happened?" Mr. Flaversham asked her, as they hurried towards the unmoving bat.

"I told him a joke and he started laughing too hard!" Olivia sobbed in her father's arms, "It's all my fault! I didn't mean for this to happen!"

"No, Livy, it's not your fault," a frail raspy voice sounded off quietly, who lay still on the pavement and Olivia stared at the frozen figure.

"You mustn't blame yourself, dear," Dr. Dawson soothed.

"And for a fact, it's nobody's fault, Miss Flaversham," Basil agreed and good thing, too, because he wouldn't be saying Olivia's last name wrong in a situation that's far too unnerving and depressing to bear; mainly for this predicament: Fidget's oncoming death.

Stabilizing her tears, the tearful girl broke free from her father's arms and she raced over to the injured bat, whose body was about to lay lifeless at any moment. Olivia bent down next to him. "Fidget, I know that telling you the joke was fun and all, but I really regret it now," Olivia fretted, sadly.

"Olivia, it doesn't matter, but it did have me going," Fidget rasped, caressing his wing around her body.

"You shouldn't feel guilty for just telling a joke," Basil informed Olivia.

"I know and thanks," Olivia said, fighting her tears, and turning to Fidget, she asked, "What can I do for you, Fidget?"

"Nothing, but all I want is for you all to be happy and remember me as a heroic and caring person," Fidget answered.

Toby whimpered as he shed tears from his eyes. The bat looked at him with concern, though his vision was getting a little hazy.

"Do you think you can do that?" asked Fidget, now facing Olivia.

Olivia nodded and so did Basil, Dr. Dawson, Toby, and her father.

"But just remember, I'll always be your friend, forever," Fidget proclaimed in his last words, as he drew in his last breath with the happy moments he had with Olivia, her father, and her friends before him, then descended to the ground with his left wing and all and died.

Everyone wept at the scene until Fidget's soul surfaced from his body. His soul meant it was him and it cannot be destroyed by anyone, not even by Ratigan, but to this day, his peg leg was replaced with another foot and he grinned down upon them. At that same moment, their gaze met his and they, too, twinkled widely like stars in a metaphorical sense, even Toby, who gave out a jubilant bark.

A minute later, Fidget had gone to Heaven, so he can stay with his relatives, including his parents, sleep, hang upside down whenever he liked, fly, and just about anything his free spirit ever so desired.

The End

AN: I know, this story is very sad, but luckily, it was just a dream. I'd be upset, too if Fidget actually died, but you should be happy that his fate wasn't so grim at the end.

*The Evanescence song, "My Last Breath" was playing in the dream.

*It's hard to say what happened in the dream. He either got shot and Ratigan may be to blame, died of a heart attack, or Fidget's body shut down and died for no apparent reason, for he was too young to die, like he said in the movie when inside Felicia's hungry mouth.
