Today was the first day of the new month, for those who knew the Midoriya family it was also called Izuka's Favourite Day. Strange as that sounded to most people for a grade-schooler to have such a specific day be their favourite to Inko it was part of a special tradition that she and her daughter shared between just the two of them.
On the first of every month, Inko would go down to their mailbox and pull out another brightly coloured envelope holding a postcard for them. Since there was never any writing on the card Inko and Izuka would go to the local library and try and find out as much information about the place where it originated from. Sometimes they found interesting recipes or stories other times they would add another name to their small list of places to visit for trips. But no matter what they found the two would always put another pin onto a large map of Japan before the postcard was carefully placed into one of Inko's treasured scrapbooks.
Today, however, was different, today was the day that everything changed for Izuka.
The young girl watched in concern as her mother ran back into the apartment calling both the hospital and Izuka's school telling them she was unable to come in today due to a sudden fever. Worried that something might be wrong Izuka hesitantly asked her mother if everything was ok and where their postcard was.
Inko had just given the largest smile Izuka had ever seen and excitedly told her daughter that instead of a postcard her uncle was coming to visit them.
Of course, Inko had always told her daughter just who the postcards came but Izuka had never actually met the man in person before, like her father Hisashi, Izuka's uncle was just a name. The quirkless girl had never even seen a picture of the man and when she tried to imagine what he looked like all she could come up with was a boy version of her mother, like how Kacchan looked like Auntie Mitchan.
Hoping to make a good impression Izuka ran off to her room and started cleaning fearing that her uncle would hate her when he found out she was quirkless like her father seemed to. In fact, Izuka was so focused on her cleaning and worrying that she lost track of time until a loud 'thud' brought her back into reality.
Grabbing her favourite All Might action figure to help herself feel brave Izuka slowly made her way to the kitchen wincing as she heard her mother cursing once she was close enough.
"- not an idiot," Inko's voice lectured. "You should have come here sooner damnit."
Taking a deep breath Izuka peeked around the corner and saw her mother trying to pinch the face of what looked like a man who's head was made of smoke. Looking closer Izuka saw that it wasn't only the strangers head the seemed to be made of smoke it was his whole body, she could also see smoke escaping through his butlers' outfit where his hands and feet were.
Curious Izuka stuck her head out further to get a better look at the strangers the small person dressed in an oversized hoodie seemed to sense her presence and turned around so their eyes were looking directly into her own.
The boy who was obviously older then Izuku had long greasy looking blue hair that hide most of his face but Izuka could still see his red eyes poking through uneven bangs. The other thing Izuka noticed about the boy was that he was hurt, there were cuts all that stood out vividly over his face and the largest being over his lips.
Not wanting to be rude Izuka lifted one hand and waved to the boy, he scowled in return and turned back to the adults grabbing the butler's wrist one finger raised to get the adults attention.
"Ah Izuchan," Inko smiled noticing her daughter suddenly. "Come here sweetheart, let me introduce you to your uncle Iz-"
"Kurogiri," the tall man interrupted bright yellow eyes staring at Izuka as the warp gate user walked over and offered his niece his hand. "It's nice to see you again Izuka, you've certainly grown since the last time I saw you."
"Wow," Izuka watched in awe as her own hand went through some of the smoke when she tried to shake her uncles' hand. "Is this smoke apart of your quirk? Can you turn your whole body into smoke? If you did turn into smoke how do you change back? Is this even smoke or is it mist"
Inko chuckled softly watching as her daughter started asking her brother question after question hardly pausing to take a breath.
Finding out she was quirkless had nearly destroyed Izuka, it was only recently that she had started showing any emotion again. Inko would often find her drawing and writing in front of the television or at the computer mumbling to herself as heroes moved across the screen.
Having taken a peek inside those notebooks Inko was stunned to see pictures of numerous heroes and slightly messy writing next to it detailing their quirks strengths and weaknesses. Inko had known Izuka was smart, her grades far exceeded what a normal grade schooler but her ability to point out such detailed ways in which a hero's quirk could be improved or neutralized with such accuracy made her worry slightly.
There were many people out there who could take advantage of her daughters' gift and not all of them wore the label of villain.
"It's alright Inko she's just curious," Kurogiri hummed holding out his hand further so Izuku could continue with her examination. "I recall you being the same when my hair first started changing."
Inko coughed and tried to hide her blush looking at the boy near her who was trying his best to make himself look as small as possible. Luckily as nurse who had worked so many years in the pediatric field, Inko was unfortunately familiar with this type of behaviour from children.
"Hello there, my name is Inko Midoriya what's your name?"
The boy didn't respond he just grabbed the hood around his head and pulling it down keeping one finger suspended above the fabric.
"Kurogiri says that you hurt," Inko said not deterred by the silence as she tried to find anything visibly wrong with the child. Sadly, the hoodie made a pretty good shield for the boy stopping just above his knees and making it impossible for Inko to see if he had anymore wounds besides the ones on his face.
"Would it be alright if I took a look?"
The boy's hands stilled and Inko thought for a moment he that she was making progress, instead, the boy let go of the clothing and started clawing at his face and neck drawing blood with every scratch of his cracked nails. Inko tried to grab his wrists to stop him but he hissed and jumped back out of her reach and right into the small stool she had for when Izuka helped her in the kitchen.
Trying to stop himself from falling the boy placed all five of his fingers on the stool and the Midoriya women watched as heavy plastic started to crumble. Now looking terrified the boy quickly got up and ran to the closet corner curling up in it.
"Tomura Shigaraki what have I told you about using your quirk on objects," Kurogiri reprimanded turning to his sister who was just staring at where the stool was a moment ago and letting out a deep sigh. "I apologize Inko, this is why I brought him to you. Tomura has been to see numerous doctors but each time he dissolves their instruments before they can complete examining him."
Kurogiri left out that sometimes it was the doctors themselves who Tomura used his quirk on.
Inko frowned at her older brother placing her hands on her hips like their mother used to do when she scolded them. "Well obviously he's scared, have you not tried to make him feel comfortable when you take him to a doctor? Perhaps bringing a toy or game to play with."
"Given the extent of his injuries and possible risk of infection Tomura needs medical attention immediately however as you can see his behaviour makes that … difficult at best." Kurogiri answered not even wanting to imagine what would happen if either he or Sensei brought the boys 'father' with them as a means of keeping the boy calm, even underground doctors had a limit to what they would allow in their clinics.
Inko looked at her brother dumbfounded getting a clearer picture at why Tomura was being so difficult for the doctors to handle. The boy was stuck in the flight or fight and since neither her brother or his sensei were taking time to be patient and explain what was happening Tomura was acting out in an attempt to protect himself.
Reaching out Inko smacked the metal brace.
"Idiot … moron … dummy …"
Kurogiri's yellow eyes narrowed slightly as Inko hit only weak spot over and over again. "There is no need for name calling sister."
"There is when you don't use your brain," Inko growled turning to the corner where Tomura was sitting watching them and approaching slowly and kneeling in front of him making sure to give him some space so he wouldn't feel trapped. "I'm sorry about my brother, Tomura was it? Sometimes I think he wasn't born with a lot of common sense."
Tomura's red eyes flicked towards Kurogiri for a moment before looking at Inko again.
"I'm going to go get my first aid kit first just in case you want me to look at your injuries later ok? But first, why don't I make us some lunch?"
Standing up Inko gave her brother one last stern as she walked out of the kitchen. Once he was sure she wouldn't try and grab him like one of the other doctors Tomura put his head back into his arms intent on blocking out the world until Kurogiri and this woman finally gave up on helping him.
Unfortunately for the decay user, he had forgotten about the girl, but it seems that she hadn't forgotten about him because now she was sitting in front of him asking questions a mile a minute with the cause of all Tomura's pain sitting innocently on her lap smiling up at him.
"I like your quirk; do you need all five fingers to activate it? What's the largest thing you've ever made disappear? Do you need to worry about hurting yourself when you use it? H-"
"Hate … him." Tomura grumbled looking at the doll frozen smile.
"What?" Izuka said looking at her uncle in confusion. "Why do you hate uncle Kuro?"
"Not him," the boy hissed eyes narrowing pointing at All Might. "Him."
Izuka was shocked, was someone even allowed to hate All Might he was All Might even villains seemed to like him since they gave up so quickly when he showed up. As curious as Izuka was to why Tomukun hated her favourite hero she also didn't want her action figure to get destroyed like her stool.
Kurogiri watched his niece get up and run away wondering what she would do next having taken the role of an observer only planning to interfering if Tomura's temper threatened her safety.
Tomura frowned and put his head down again when Izuka ran away not surprised when she did, everyone loved Al … him and Tomura saying that he hated the number one hero made people look at him funny. Not Sensei though, Sensei would always smile and pat Tomura on the head when he said it.
Thinking that it was the Inko woman again Tomura was dumbfounded when the girl returned to where she had just been sitting only this time without the offending hero toy.
"How do you sleep at night, do you put band-aids on your fingers?" Izuka asked picking up her questions from where she had left off as though nothing had happened.
Tomura looked at the girl stunned that she would choose him over the hero. "You made him go away … why?"
Izuka looked confused now. "You said you don't like All Might, I don't understand why he's a hero. The best hero ever!"
Izuka smiled and threw her arms up with that hoping that Tomukun would join her. When he didn't she moved closer and grabbed his sleeve and pulled them up so that they both had their hands in the air.
Pulling his arms away carefully so that he didn't hurt this weird girl Tomura frowned and shook his head. "All Might's stupid. Sensei is was better, he saved me."
Izuka cocked her head curiously. "Maybe All Might just couldn't find you, but you know if your Sensei did they must be amazing to do what All Might couldn't."
"He is," Tomura nodded smiling brightly and surprising Kurogiri in the process. This was the first time he had ever seen one on the boy's face. "And then he kept me safe from the bad people who were after me."
"Wow," Izuka gasped looking even more excited. "Then I wanna be like Sensei too."
"Huh?"
Holding out her hand to Tomukun pinky extended the girl smiled. "No matter what happens I promise to always find you and rescue you just like Sensei did."
Since Izuka is eight here I'm going to make Tomura eleven that way there's not too big of an age gap. Since Tomura's age isn't actually told on any site I could find and how he acts in the manga I'm going to say there's less than a ten-year gap between him and class 1-A.
