I'll Be Home For Christmas

Shelby sat by her Christmas tree and sighed. Where was he? It was Christmas Eve after all.
Stupid business trip, she thought and sighed again waiting patiently. He was supposed to be home now, with her.
The phone rang and she sprang into action and grabbed it off the receiver with lightning speed.
"Shel?" Scott said
"Scott!" she breathed.
"The flights been delayed. There's too much snow," he said, obviously exhausted from the flight and the stress from the plane delay.
"Oh" she said disappointed.
"I'm really sorry," he said.
"Oh that's okay," she said, masking her disappointment. "We'll just celebrate when you get home," she said.
"Really?" He said hoping she was okay.
"Oh yeah" she lied, "its not like we don't have more Christmas Eve's together"
"You're right," he said "But I'm still sorry"
"I know, Scott, its okay," she said smiling
"Okay, well I have to go, other people want to use the phone, I'm in a line about a mile long" he joked and then added seriously "I love you" he whispered into the phone.
"I know," she said blushing over the phone "I love you too" she said before they said goodbye and they hung up.

After her phone conversation, she turned off the lights on the tree, then put all the food she had out away, and then crawled into bed and fell into a deep, deep sleep.

In the morning, she awoke to the sound of knocking on the door. She got up quickly, but her robe on and headed to the door, not even bothering to look into the peephole to see whom it was.
She opened the door and was met by something she thought she'd never see.
"Scott" she said excitedly and smiled and felt her knees go weak.
There he was standing out in the cold, snow coating his jacket, his cheeks and nose red from the cold. She could see the rental car behind him in the driveway of their home.
"Merry Christmas" he said shrugging his shoulders and smiling that patented smile of his.
"Yes," she said, "it is" and she wrapped her arms around her and brought him inside the house.
