Chapter 1

He sat in the confinement of the bed, his back propped up with a couple pillows. He watched her as she sat on the stool set up at his bedside, peeling the skin from an apple. He couldn't help but admire the way the sun's rays hit her golden blonde locks.

"What's the frown for?" She stopped and looked to him, her golden eyes rising to his face. He was smiling lightly to her, almost a smirk.

"Your plan was perfect, you did your part." She looked down, the feeling of guilt rising up in her once more. "But I should have gotten there sooner to protect you."

"Nothing's perfect. The world's not perfect. But it's there for us, trying the best it can, that's what makes it so damn beautiful." He raised a hand, running it through her golden locks. Her eyes met his one that was not covered by an eye patch and couldn't help but smile lightly, a small breathy chuckle escaping from her throat.

"Just shut up and eat." She raised a piece of apple to his mouth with the small knife, placing it into his mouth. He said nothing but obliged, chewing on the slice of apple slowly. His gaze turned to her and he swallowed.

"Riza…" she didn't answer him, and pushed another slice of apple to his lips. He sighed lightly, taking it and looked to him. She raised her hand, holding another piece to his mouth and he chuckled, putting a gentle hand on hers and brought it down.

"You need to eat. So you can get your strength back…"

"Riza." He had stopped her mid-sentence, or tried to rather. She was distracted, rambling. He gave her hand a soft squeeze and she looked to him. A soft smile lightened his features. "Thank you." She shook her head, looking away,

"You have nothing to thank me for."

"Yes I do." He moved his hand to her cheek, forcing her to look at him.

"You saved my life, you've stood by me all the time, even when whatever I was doing was stupid, ill-conceived."

"Just doing my duty Sir."

"You can call me Roy…" she smiled lightly, nodding. She stood up, walking to place the knife on a table. He laughed softly and she looked back to him, raising an eyebrow.

"What ever happened to not wearing miniskirts?" She blushed,

"With all due respect Roy, shut up." The two shared a soft laugh as she came back to his bedside to feed him another apple piece.

Over the weeks that followed Roy's strength grew back bit-by-bit. He was soon able to walk around with the aid of a cane. He had begun to walk with Riza and Hayate to the market when she shopped for food. On one particularly nice day as they were out, Riza stopped at a fruit stand, looking over the elderly woman's wares. Roy himself stood back, smiling lightly as he watched her, a twinkle of admiration in his eyes. The woman smirked, smiling to Riza.

"You two make a fine couple. He clearly loves you." Riza blushed and turned her head to look at him with a smile. He stood there still; smiling that same smile to her…it was the smile he always smiled at her. It was as if it were a special smile, reserved just for her. She walked back to him, after buying a few apples and the two began their walk back down the street.

"She's right you know." Riza looked up to him questioningly.

"Hmm?" He smirked and continued to walk ahead, whistling softly. Riza only smiled softly, a light blush on her cheeks once more. She didn't get a straight answer, but somehow, she didn't really need one.
