The following occurred when Kousei Arima was 18 years old, nearly ten years after Saki Arima, the mother of Kousei, recovered from her illness.

However, Kaori tragically passed away while she was undergoing surgery, which was an attempt to treat her terminal illness. Shortly after, Kousei received a letter from Kaori's parents which was written by Kaori before her surgery. In the letter, Kaori expressed her love and gratitude towards Kousei and thanked him for bringing happiness and purpose to her life. Kaori would forever remain a dear person to Kousei's heart and someone he would never forget.
The girl that Kousei was currently in a relationship with was Tsubaki Sawade, his childhood friend. She was also a beautiful girl with chin length brown hair and hazel eyes. Tsubaki was also very kind, always volunteering to assist Kousei when he was having a problem. Kousei and Tsubaki have been best friends since the day they were born, playing together and growing up extremely close, being best friends as well as next door neighbours. They went to the same middle school and were usually walking home together. Apparently, Tsubaki had a crush on Kousei and she confessed to him on their last day of middle school. Kousei was initially surprised as Tsubaki had always told him that she considered him to be her "hopeless kid brother". After a while Kousei accepted her feelings and they began dating each other. However, these days they saw each other less often as they were now attending different high schools.
Anyway, he put on his clothes and proceeded towards his mother's bedroom to find out what she wished to speak to him about.
